The Doctor Phillips House, originally called the Peleg Peckham House, was built in 1893 by architect L.M. Boykin. Proprietor of the Winter Park area, Peleg Peckham, gifted this 'Shingle Style' house to his daughter as a wedding gift. After her husband's death, the house was sold once before it was bought by Dr. Philip Phillips in 1912.
Dr. Philip Phillips, Florida's first 19th century Orange Juice Baron, had the house renovated by architect L. Percival Hutton. Hutton added 'modern' bathrooms, a ballroom, and took the original 2-story porch and turned it into an 'Ionic Portico' stylized courtyard.
Phillips died in 1959 and the Doctor Phillips House was deeded by the Phillips family to the City of Orlando, upon which it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
The Doctor Phillips House currently serves the community as a rentable venue, a bed and breakfast, and a permanent home for those who have not passed on.
