Im from peru btw. Just to add, the practice of trepanation in ancient Peru, particularly within the Inca Empire, is a fascinating and medically advanced aspect of their culture. Trepanation, the surgical procedure of drilling or cutting holes into the skull, was carried out for various purposes. The Inca civilization, known for its remarkable achievements in architecture and medicine, practiced trepanation primarily for therapeutic and ritualistic reasons. These procedures date back over a thousand years, with evidence of trepanation found in archaeological sites across the region.

Trepanation is still used today to reduce inter-cranial pressure, obviously using modern tools and anesthetics. It surprisingly has actual merit, though definitely dangerous to attempt without modern technology and training. Coca leaves are still used for altitude sickness for visitors and residents in parts of South America. Chewing the leaves can reduce sickness for visitors to high altitude sites such as Machu Pichu. Another drug that, similarly to cocaine, was readily available and used but now illegal is Ecstacy. A video on that would be interesting for sure.

Thanks for such an interesting video! I know that these practices are ancient and now considered quite brutal. However, medicine is still a man's world, and as a woman who became extremely ill at the age of 31 with an invisible illness, I've lost all faith in even modern medicine. I fell ill in 2009. I needed antivirals. I got antidepressants instead and was told to go talk to a therapist. In the years since, I have nearly died several times and it has taken me 13 years to get a somewhat effective treatment - a repurposed HIV drug. Most of us, as I did, grow up thinking doctors know everything. In my experience, most of them know far less than they should and med school curricula needs a serious overhaul. OK. Rant over LOL.
