Good to hear that the rum really comes alive in a mai tai! I do have to say that the (at least according to your pallete) lack of fruity hogo is making me feel a lot less bad about not getting to try it myself. Considering it's all pot still, I was really hoping for an Appleton with a bit of amped-up funk, even if it was rounded off by the age. It would be cool if Appleton/J Wray did some more pure pot still releases, maybe ones that are a little more available and a little less cost prohibitive lol.
@kidyuki1

Like you said, it makes sense for them to release the 17 year under the Appleton brand, but if they did do the NAS mai tai blend like you said, it'd interesting if they did it under J Wray and called it "original mai tai rum" or something like that.

One would suspect that the people who made W&N would have some to match the flavor. Three dots and a dash in Chicago has a bottle of W&N and a vintage orange liqueur which they noted was sweeter than current curaçao’s. You can get a mai tai with them for $800. There is an article in food&wine. I’ve had their regular priced mai tai which tries to emulate it and it’s good but I like the ones make at home Bette because they are to my tastes… my wife and friends like it better too.

@therumrevival

@@BhutWhut That's tough as I'd recommend looking for an independent bottling of trinidad rum but generally I'm not seeing any on the market at this moment. @@therumrevival I've had Angostura 1919 but it seemed very sweet and the vanilla was overwhelming. I was just looking for something at the price point of Kaniche (Barbados) but from Trinidad. I know that on the island they have a great variety, but I guess much of it doesn't get exported. At least there are lots of Barbados options here stateside. BTW, we rummies appreciate the great job you're doing with this channel. Keep it up. 👍
