I like your lectures very much. You are an excellent speaker and have a most engaging way of breaking down difficult information. I am interested in how you talk about dialysis. People seem to think it's like plugging in a crockpot! Even some of the specialists seemed to minimize the impact dialysis has on a family's life. I helped my late husband with home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis before his death in 2011. That experience - but also watching his day-to-day struggles - made me somewhat of a kidney zealot. I am a family physician and have had plenty of opportunities to help my patients avoid CKD. Your plant-based recommendations seem very sound. Thank you. L.Gromko MD

Why hiv affect kidneys in the majority of cases? I read an article from a homeopathic doctor who was kinda of explaining it but I couldn't understand much due to the terms he was using but at the end he suggest to make tests to check liver, kidneys and guts to find out previous illness that will affect the absorption of vitamins, minerals and proteins by our digestive system and make our inmune system weaker as also suggest fruit and vegetables (raw) diet to recover alive "enzymes" that our body needs, it was interesting to read about it but definitely there are so much information that we need to follow up to understand.

My worry is that will consuming so much fruit alter your insulin levels because of the sugar(fructose)? Also, because carbohydrates turn in to sugar, will eating rye bread(low on potassium and phosphorus) be bad? Ive tried fasting and keto with stage 2-3 and it is difficult as it is a low sodium diet and you need that PLUS potassium. Ive been doing a plant base approach ever since I saw your videos. Especially with the young lady that is a kidney nutritionist. Lastly, my last question/concern is that I saw a 30 year experienced cardyologist talk about fasting, autophogy, and sugar being a cause of heart problems with a lot of his patients. And showed evidence based studies that saturated fats(omega 3) is good for the heart and do not cause heart problems related to death, but instead, the sugar and carbohydrates do. As it is also linked to alzeimers and dementia and so forth. So as you can see doc, ive been trying yo find a balance with all this. Can you please explain and/or let me know if you will do a video on this as I feel is such a huge topic.

Or should I do the 5 servings of fruit and veg then also have some nuts and tofu to get the protein in? Also what are you thoughts on tofu vs whole cooked soybeans, and what forms of plant protein DO you recommend. Thank you.
@SELFPrinciple
2 жыл бұрын
Great question, what I meant by don't think about protein is that most people become obsessed over protein intake. This is not evidence based but based on lots of marketing around protein and meat and it goes back to WWII era. Think of the healthy plate model. Here is a link: healthy.kaiserpermanente.org/health-wellness/healtharticle.the-healthy-plate-method 25% of your plate should be protein 25% should be complex carbohydrates 50% should be nonstarchy vegetables. In regards to tofu and cooked soybeans. My family and I do both. We get organic tofu from Costco :) For plant proteins: I try to focus on lentils, tofu, tempeh, beans, peas, quina and ezekial bread. I try to stay away from protein powders. When I do have them, I get soy based.

My spouse never had high blood pressure or diabetes, or kidney disease. He was admitted to the hospital because of aspiration pneumonia, about 5 months ago, and since then he is still in the hospital and being bombarded with Vancomycin(which destroys the kidneys), and other antibiotics. This week, as his kidneys started to fail, the hospital started dialyses on him, and he still is given Vancomycin, and other antibiotics. Isn’t that counterproductive?
@SELFPrinciple
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Richrico. First of all, I am so sorry for the very difficult time you are going through with your spouse. You are both in my prayers. The key to using vancomycin is to measure levels and adjust dosing. Here is a study that summarizes the findings. "Vancomycin used at currently recommended doses is minimally nephrotoxic when used in noncritically ill patients with less serious infections. In sicker patients with multiple risk factors for AKI, VANT occurs much more commonly, but it remains uncertain to what degree vancomycin is directly responsible. In our opinion, it is safe to initiate therapy with vancomycin in critically ill patients with multiple risk factors for AKI, pending culture results with use of TDM and antibiotic stewardship (Table 5). Trough levels should be obtained within 48-72 h, by which time initial culture results should be available. Decisions regarding continuation of vancomycin therapy can be individualized, based on culture result, MIC (if staphylococci are isolated), AKI risk, and side‐effect profile of alternative agents. Loading doses are safe." Filippone et al. Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2017 Sep; 102(3): 459-469. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5579760/

It’s a great question. Unfortunately I don’t see much on maca pharmacokinetics so don’t know if dose adjustment is needed in renal conditions

What do you eat during the day. I noted your comment about wheat and I am on the wheat belly diet. so if I cut out meat and cheese what am I going to eat? I love fruit and veg and eat lots but I must admit without grains, etc eating is not much fun.

Thank you...subed Can you speak on organic vs non-organic foods please. Non-organic grapes are SO heavy with chemicals, that they burn my tongue and cause pustules on my skin. Washed with a baking soda mix they do fine.

What about fructose in fruit… l love fruit but lately some doctors started to tell us to give fruit the boot to save the liver from becoming fatty and diseased .

But fruits of today has tons of fructose compared to fruits of 30 years ago. And vegetables unless organics has pesticides. It is safer to be on a Ketogenic diet or on Carnivore diet : but the animal protein are from real meats not from processed meats. Fruits are fine if from non GMO . So are veggies. On top of that you eat less in ‘mass’ when you are on keto/ carnivore diet as 1. Your stomach decreases in size and 2 you are satiated for a longer period. I now eat 2 meals a day between 11 am and 6 pm. The rest of the time just drinking plain green/black/ chocolate with added kefir and homegrown / homemade full leaf aloe vera juice.

We fear to eat plenty of vegetables bec of fertilizers that are used to grow them,. Does the fertilizers that are used to grow them have any effect in our bodies and how serious?

Most of our ancestors were both hunters and gatherers because fruits and vegetables do not grow all year round, so we do need a balance of both meat and vegetables to stay healthyy.

Is it possible for a patient on dialysis come off dialysis on plant based diet? In other words, is dialysis a permanent treatment?
