Kai talked about how they definitely are Danny's match based on everything they told the producers, but as we can see the constraints of the house threw most of that out the window. There was an amazing interview between Kai and TylerSemiColon (AYTO S6), but Tyler rebranded his channel and now they're not up. :( A lot of previous cast members have videos talking about their experience and their match and the background they give makes so much of the show make sense.

It might be considered silly at first but you have to understand they need a motive for both the show and the contestants. Considered a variety of reality shows make fun of themselves, I don't think the whole connection thing is real either. This remind me of a video of a contestant from the bachelor said that they as well as others do not go on the show for the reason stated on the show. ( For love). The who fated connection is just a marketing ploy to get the audience excited to watch.
@eoincampbell1584
4 жыл бұрын
@@christarolle7012 There does need to be a motive but design-wise a show could do much better than this. Imagine like a fluid all inclusive Bachelor where instead of one single person who everyone else is meant to go after (which is crazy already) each episode people compete for the ability to give out the roses, essentially narrowing down the pool for themselves and fighting to keep the people they like in. In this hypothetical show the drama becomes more hype as it goes on because people with real connections will fight super hard in the challenges to keep in their one person while people who like a lot of others will when they win make more and more difficult and heartbreaking decisions about who to keep. Hell not everyone would necessarily have to be bi/pan/fluid since preference would be core to the mechanics of the show. (though the more sexually fluid people the more possible parings, which is probably better for any romance focused tv show)

I do not care about reality shows in general but you seem really good at picking out all the actually-interesting bits and sharing them with us, and I am into that. I have to say while I agree with your dislike of the whole "if you're not a perfect match, you must give up on each other" thing, I really like the idea of a dating show where everyone could be into everyone. Maybe they could add some sort of caveat where if two people REALLY REALLY want to stay together even though the algorithm didn't favor them, they can... I dunno, go through some sort of extra challenge to "prove their love" or whatever. And maybe it would mean that if they do it, EVERYONE else has to be re-algorithmed to account for the fact that those two are now removed from the dating pool? So there's like, an extra layer of social tension where you have to confront not only choosing someone who didn't originally fit, but you're kind of leaving your unknown "original match" to be reshuffled along with everyone else. And then they could do a reveal at the end and show what the results were for each "shuffle" that took place in a given show.

i haven't seen the show but when i heard your synopsis i thought this show could have been really cool bc it could have commented on how personality tests are weird/pseudoscience. and on how while a test may say you're compatible, that doesn't necessarily match the relationship you develop with someone in real life. (they might have done this but) i wish they explained how the personality tests worked. like maybe at the beginning of the show where they introduce the cast they could have listed a bunch of their test results on-screen and shared them with the contestants too so everyone can guess based on that instead of just the beam ceremonies. (but its more dramatic that way i guess) it also could have been cool if whenever a perfect match was revealed, they explain why The Algorithm put them together. it just seems like a wasted opportunity, but then again that type of meta-commentary doesn't seem to be what the show's about so i guess it doesn't really matter. it is still amazing to see so much representation on a tv dating show. :)

They kinda do mention some of the questions they asked, but it’s very subtle and pretty much only during trivia challenges on the show. If you pay attention to those then it gives insight to what they asked beforehand

I wanna say that _kai_ being kind of a hot ticket player in this game hit VERY hard, as a nonbinary person who worry's that androgyny is considered inherently unnatractive to most people. Having this transmasc person who's openly transmasc and openly nonbinary and has a lot of similar transition steps that I want to get being seen as inherently attractive enough to have people _fight_ over them. Goddamn

There was also a reality dating show on Logo called Finding Prince Charming, if you want to review that. It was basically The Bachelor with an all-male cast of suitors.

What I'm really getting from the comments and the "where are they now" part of the video a huge reason why couples don't work out is because of the distance. I think dating shows should take that into consideration when choosing candidates as it adds another layer of "what would that person be like in regular life, outside the cameras of the show". Maybe they should pick a region of where their contestants will be from? (note, i don't watch a lot of dating shows)

i feel like the algorithm thing could be cool to get you out of your comfort zone, like “oh we’re perfect on paper huh never would have thought that, i guess i’ll give it a try” but also it would suck to have to abandon growing relationships because you weren’t “a perfect match” but yeah definitely and interesting concept

You know, you would think that a cast of exclusively LGBTQ+ people would be more critical of the idea of perfect matches. The idea of soul mates is a concept deeply mired in antiquated heteronormative ideology that boils human attraction down to rather arbitrary standards. Like you were saying, these people aren't following their hearts; they're just trying to find "The One" based on what someone told them. Also this whole show is straight up that one episode of Black Mirror lol.

I think they pair them based on who they "need" to be a better person. Kai and Danny were a perfect example. Totally the opposites but Kai did chill tf out with Danny lol but about where they were after the show: Surprised you didnt find out abt the series of podcasts MAx did where he trashed everyone and then even Justin joined him bc they apparently kept being boyfriends after the show

Your comment about the weight of the contestants: the reality of the situation is horrible because: 1. Maybe no fat people auditioned because they didn't think they'd get cast in a show like this which is horrible to think of in itself. 2. Fat people auditioned but weren't chosen OR... 3.The casting team scouted social media and just straight up ignored anyone carrying some extra lbs. Those are the only possibilities and they all suck. They gotta do better.

Felicia Wright the last time I watched I would have been a pre teen, but her being my first introduction of a bi person just made it seem like you needed to be super sexual - it’s 2000s MTV though so I can’t blame the show. I just remember an episode where two of the girl contestants kissed each other and my impression at the time was ohhhh higher risk of cheating drama. Again all of the impressions I had where from when I first watched it as a 12 year old questioning her sexuality so it wasn’t the best example for me

i haven't ever non-ironically watched a reality tv show but as soon as I saw this one recommended in your comments I knew I had to at least try to watch it. And let's just say that I didn't sleep that night at all. It was sooo good (watched season 7 later that month which was good as well, but also very "meh - hetero" if you know what I mean). I'm forever grateful that I came over this show because of you essentially! As for the "perfect matches" I agree that love isn't at all predictable like that and it's only natural that most of the people don't actually end up together or that people can have a healthy deep and loving relationship with someone who wasn't their match on the show but I still appreciated a few things that the show made people realize. Like Jenna realizing that she just can't go for types like Ky (open relationship, free spirit people) because she may be attracted to them but those types also eventually always break her heart (like Ky would and people outside the show did because she is very monogamous and very jealous so she need someone who won't be betraying her trust just because they are being themselves. And I'm not saying that Ky is a inexcusably shitty person - i believe that everyone deals with their problems differently - but they very just not at all compatible in terms of long-term relationship). Or that Ky was shown how his behavior is bad and was able to state his feelings and eventually open up about what really goes on inside his and possibly try finding a professional help to sort out his mental problems after the show. And Jonathan had the possibility to explore other parts of queer culture and get comfortable with it. So yeah, not always ideal but I seriously think that sometimes people can actually learn and use what the "matchmakers" took into account when assigning matches.

The bit about Basit and Jonathan hit so true. I think generally from straight people's perspectives lgbtq+ spaces have this image of being super inclusive and "everyone is welcome", but you'd be surprised sometimes how much transphobia, misogyny and racism you can encounter within lgbtq+ communities. Like there was the thing about "not fats, no femmes, no asians" on grindr a few years ago, and there are still gays on dating apps who just want there to be jacked white cis gay men on those apps.

Hey Tiffany! to get around the commercials I watched this show on both the phone and the Ipad. So what you do is you fast forward on one device to the next commercial, let that run while watching the other until commercials, then u switch and fast forward on the other one to have it ready for the next commercial. Hope that makes sense. Saved me quite a lot of time, quick maths says close to two hours of commercials.
