I'm crying laughing watching this! Thank you guys so much for the shout out here - it's pretty surreal! One of my subscribers tipped me off to this video and my first thought was "SOLAR SANDS?? No freaking way!" 😅 I'm very humbled and honoured by your kind words here! Again, thank you. ❤ To help answer some of your questions posed throughout the video, I'll briefly mention a bit of my background; aside from being a Lego fan and having an interest in casual video production, I'm a music teacher by trade as well as a touring musician. Music is typically my main vehicle, hence why I decide to produce it all myself as a bit of a fun challenge! 2022 was pretty consistently weekly videos from me (every Friday), but we'll see what happens in 2023. I've gotta pace myself, but there's still so much Lego to talk about! 😂 Thanks for spotlighting the channel guys! Wishing you all the best in 2023!

R.R. Slugger is a rare glimpse at the final form of post-scarcity human society. Intelligent, determined, meticulous, and endlessly creative- any goal should, in theory, be within his reach if pursued. Affluence. Power. World domination. And yet they are not pursued, because once any pursuit is achievable, the scale of achievement is left meaningless. Without magnitude to mark success, all that remains is one goal. His goal. Scaffolded by no extrinsic pragmatism and unshackled from egocentric competition. That goal is to talk about Lego. And so he does.

It's strange how I agree with you about this, sorta. It's extremely rare to see a KZitemr who's simply incredibly sincere and humble about everything he makes, and puts so much effort into their work. Slugger isn't really like the more typical of artists who use their work as an exploration of themselves. Artists are, most of the time, willing to create something they might only somewhat like or agree with, or even dislike. As an artist myself I do this kind of thing all the time: I've written creations I challenge on the intellectual and ideological level, I've made drawings that make me feel sick and guilty. It's normal for artists to make things they don't agree with. Slugger doesn't ever do that. Everything he presents on his channel is 100% himself. Besides the monicor of his sluggy character, Slugger never presents anything that makes you question what he's trying to tell you without him going out of his way to explain what he intends. As a sperg, that resonates with me a lot because I do the same thing quite a bit.

You people might laugh at this, but as someone who studied design, the thing with that little elongated piece is pretty on point. It's not really a good piece to design sets in Lego, and the problem is in industrial settings working with injection molding plastics, if you tool the molds you HAVE to use them in order to recoup the investment, as the tooling is a pretty expensive process. So the designers at Lego were probably dying on the inside, knowing they fucked up, and had to sell thousands of these pieces in order to recover the money spent on the molds, and thus you're forced to use this piece for the following year, forcing it in every set you can until you sell enough units to finally discontinue the piece.

Saw the title of this video and was almost worried, his videos are--and I mean this in the best way--so unnaturally precise and genuine, wouldn't be hard to see him in a padded cell with Rock Raiders schematics and analysis scrawled on the wall. It's very funny to hear such genuine reactions and back and forth between you two about his videos, too. Maybe I'm just not aware of it but often the Lego related content I watch on youtube is pretty solitary, one person reacting to official stuff, reviewing, building huge mocs, etc. It's super niche but refreshing to hear, genuine back and forth about such a meta topic, already within a niche hobby, and not trying to be family friendly (not that there's anything wrong with, but obvs rare for lego videos). Feels like an exchange I'd have if my friends were into Lego, good vid 👍👍

Every popular film clip or comedy sketch had at least a dozen different lego stop motion remakes. R. R. Slugger is genuinely one of the only good Lego channels on YT. Most Lego channels just horde and horde and horde and clickbait and try to resell to kids. Slugger actually goes into the history and philosophy of the brick.

I was afraid this would be negative for whatever reason, because Slugger is literally the best. It was hilarious to see you guys agree he is to such an overwhelming degree.

Welcome to the Lego community where we obsess over the entire history of a toy brand, but even then this guy comes off a bit odd for us, like a mixture of Patrick Bateman and Nick on Planet Ripple. I feel like he has read all 381,614 pages of Brickipedia.

Lets see Paul Allen’s Lego brick

BATEMAN: You like LEGO? ALLEN: Um, yeah, they're pretty cool. BATEMAN: Their early themes were a little too basic for my taste. But when Rock Raiders came out in '99, I think they really pushed the limits, both creatively and technologically. The whole theme had a realistic, industrial look, and a new level of detail that really gave the sets a big boost. They've been compared to other mining themes, but I think Rock Raiders has a far more adventurous, daring spirit. ALLEN: Hey, Halberstram? BATEMAN: Yes, Allen? ALLEN: Why are there LEGO bricks all over the place? Do you... Do you have a kid? A little nephew or something? BATEMAN: No, Allen. ALLEN: Is that a tool belt? BATEMAN: Yes, it is. In '00, LEGO released this; Rock Raiders: The Movie, their most ambitious project. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Chrome Crusher". A set so impressive, most people probably don't appreciate the details. But they should, because it's not just about the thrill of exploration and the excitement of discovery. It's also a personal statement about the LEGO company itself. Hey, Paul! Bateman murders Allen with a LEGO brick.

I had no choice but to immediately sub to R.R. Slugger. His work is immaculate, all aspects made exactly to his specifications. If everyone realized the gravity of the situation and subbed as well, it could lead to a new era, a new dawn for humanity.
