I was born in 1950 and I remember most of our candy was made by my mom and grandma. Fudge and taffey were our favorites. If we did get a chance to buy candy at the store, then Tootsie Rolls were always #1. (I just bought my Halloween candy - and it’s a giant bag of Tootsie Rolls. I didn’t change much!)

Thought I would have seen some of these. Boston baked beans, whoppers, Slo Poke, Beaman clove gum, Chewels gum, Sugar babies, chocolate covered raisins, pecan logs and nougat fruit candy? Does anyone remember the candy bar that had air bubbles in it and either tiny grains of toffee?/sugar? in it? Creamy, airy and crunchy, probably mid 70's to mid 80's? My favorite candy bar. I found a similar one in and english shop in Fl. about 7 yrs ago. It was like it, but not the same.

Do you have a fact-checker on staff? Adventures of the Gummi Bears WAS a massive hit - in the 1980’s. It premiered in 1985. Wikipedia could have told you that. It was not “broadcast” on the Disney Channel - the Disney Channel was not a broadcaster, it’s a cable channel. They showed reruns of the show in 1991 well after it was a massive hit. (The Gummi Bears Candy by Haribo was also a hit in the 80’s.)

Swedish fish must have been a regional thing. I was a kid in the 50s and went to the candy shop almost daily. I never heard of Swedish Fish until about 2 years ago. Tootsie rolls and Baby Ruth were at the top. My grandmother made candy, burnt sugar candy and divinity. Good and Plenty were popular in the 50s, they were old hat by the 70s. Tootsie pops which were very popular long before the 70s. I think the research for this video is suspect. Jelly beans were popular decades before Jelly Belly jelly beans. You totally missed penny candy which was a staple for 40s and 50s kids.

The original Mars bar did not have caramel . It was more like an Almond Joy,,but with the nougat instead of coconut filler. Now it is nothing more than a variant of the Snickers bar. The early Whatchmacallit, i seen recall that this too had no caramel when it 1st came out. Caramel was added later. To be honest I preferred the no caramel version. Choco Lite & Rally bars were other ones I liked, so naturally production of both was stopped. Seems like every time a candy co finds out that I like a particular candy, production is immediately stopped or they alter it. So now I am not going to name my current favorite.

Kids today, wouldn’t know what penny candy is,at the Ben Franklin dime store, their would be about 20 square boxes of candy, like what we would get tossed at parades,a candy bar,in the 70 s 15 cents, now a buck,it’s cheaper, now to buy the bagged candy bars, two fun sized bars are about the size ,of one regular bar,I asked Mars what makes the costs go up,,they said, costs of shipping ,ingredients, making the wrappers, making the candy bars, got to pay the workers that make those goodies!

9:38. There is NO CHOCOLATE in Reese's Pieces. You need to go to their cups for that... or M&M Peanut Butter. A Reece's Pieces piece consists solely of peanut butter encased in a thin candy shell. No Chocolate.
