So I have a theory about the unforgivable curses and the deathly hallows and how they maybe connected see ik that in the story death gives each peverell brother a hallow but what if it was partially true so it’s the early 12th century there are two powerful and magical beings one being a wizard and the other a witch the wizard is no other than Merlin and the witch being Morgana lefay and let’s say they where in school together Morgana being a extremely powerful witch was upset to see she was overshadowed by Merlin and after her time at Hogwarts vowed to out match Merlin and eventually created the three unforgivable curses Merlin who saw all the damage Morgana created with the three spells in turn created three objects to counter and beat Morgana’s spells once Merlin beat Morgana he continued his study of magic it wasn’t until a century later when Merlin took on three apprentices three brothers the peverell brothers in fact who he passed his arcane knowledge down to but after his death he left each brother a hallow to care for leading to the legend of death giving the hallows to the three brothers well that’s my theory anyways let me know what you think I would also love if you could make a video on this

Well if your looking for a positive version there is an anime gacha/phone game called Fate Grand Order. She is a leader and starts as an antagonist for Lost Belt 6 which is out in May/June this year. If you want to read the story it will probably take a few months with the gameplay on top of the story since the word count for it is roughly around the size of all the Potter books now (which is the 10 parts for Act 1, can skip the 4 Act 1.5 and then 7 parts for Act 2 which all have to be completed in order to do Lost Belt 6). Word count on all the Potter books is slightly under 1.1m and FGO is probably around just over 1m if you skip 1.5 content (although Salem is a trip when they decide to introduce Lovecraftian monsters into the game). Or you can watch the Otakudaikun lore videos where he covers the all the story chapters so far as well as individual characters and concepts. It is similar to Harry Potter, contemporary Fantasy with magic users in modern time except was designed for an older audience. The Lost Belts for example are time lines where Humanity stagnated their progress and the universal consciousness would of prune the world if not for the Act 2 big bad (that we know of).

You will see the progression of a great many 'mythological' characters as the years move on. The stories/myths are changed as they get more modern. The basis for this is simply religion, in most of Europe Christianity. Simply because the monks (and other religious figures) were the only people who could write. The older written stories were usually taken from some sort of oral tradition and were usually recorded line by line (with a fair degree of accuracy. Obviously no one can be 100% but its a reasonable assumption.) So the initial telling of a character, in Morgana's case a complex, but not necessarily 'evil', is likely to more accurate. She was most likely changed down the years due to the Church not wanting to encorage the 'use of magic' and certainly by the 1500 not being 'too fond of the ladies'. This has happened to quite a number of myths all thoughout Europe and probably the world. Please note this is not really my idea, but is taken from a number of people, but mostly my wonderful partner who is a PhD in Northern European Myth, Religion & Culture (mostly Viking/Norse). A much smarter person than I am. Ted Talk Over :)

Her real name was Modred, Morgana was a nickname. Married first to Uryenes, secondly to Rhydderic "Gwaine" Hael; her sons were Medraut, Maelgwyn, and Elwaine. She was Gwaine's second wife, his first was Merlin's adulterous sister. Modred was the half-sister of Owain ap Gwynedd; nickamed "Arth" (Bear) by his Pictish brethren and called Artois by the Christian Romano-Britons of southern England. He did not conquer Albion, but served as a buffer between the Traditionalists (Pagans) and the Christians, being respected and feared enough by both sides that no one wanted to try going through him to get to the other. This caused peace in Albion and in that peace a sense of national identity began to form among the many tribes and peoples. Guinevere did not actually exist, she was created as a plot tool in the 12th Century. Actual Arthurian events happened during the Dark Ages, particularly around 655 AD. The years famine and plague that struck Prydwen during Arthur's later reign is described as years without summer or spring which matches up to the effects of a volcanic eruptions that caused similar conditions all around Europe and Asia. Of course, many events and people were blended with truth and gossip into "Arthurian Legend" but these were the original people whose stories were built upon, corrupted, and merged with other individuals to form the commonly accepted mythology. Notably, "Morgana" was never the villain. She was flawed, yet justified and genuinely loved her brother who loved her in turn. Circumstances and the manipulations of others forced the two into conflict.

The portrait that is shown when talking about the authorship of Thomas Malory is in tact a portrait of King Henry VII. Right time period, different man entirely! The interesting thing to note is that dark magic is only as evil as the crimes committed with it. Morgan need not be evil to be an adversary of Merlin. Although often she is portrayed as evil. If she sided with the fey During an expansionist war by the wizards she would probably be in the right to use all of her knowledge to protect the fey. She failed apparently. The goblins and elves are enslaved, giants nearly extinct, etc. nearly all of the near human or otherwise sentient magical creatures that could be considered fey are endangered or serve wizards in some way or another in the harry potter universe.

Merlin and Morgana also appear in the Xanth fantasy series by Piers Anthony. Merlin was originally a king of the fantasy land of Xanth until he was called to our world (Mundania) to teach a young man named Arthur. Yes, that Arthur. Morgana apparently originated in our world. I started writing a fanfic many years ago set a few months after the 8th book and Morgana was one of the big bads of the series, she was going to have her own coven who would cause chaos... Where had they been in the original book series? Trapped in a prison, whose seal broke after Voldemort died, the coven where called the Seven Sisters, after the constellation. Harry would go on a worldwide quest, visit all the schools for clues and finally have a weapon that would help, Merlin's wand...which funnily enough could be appearing in Hogwart's Legacy.

What house would Morgan really belong to? We know in canon Merlin was Slytherin, and many people want to say Morgan was also in Slytherin...but was she? How do we know? As a person who was against Merlin that would suggest a personality type counter to his. So did she have the characteristics of a Slytherin? Her love of nature, herbalism, and healing suggests Hufflepuf, but her ability to counter Merlin and her creative use of talents and seduction suggest Ravenclaw more. A knowledge of dark arts means nothing for houses, and a Ravenclaw desire or knowledge might explain her knowledge base. What does the Internet think?

For me I've always thought somewhere within the king aurther legends there must be some truth. Its like how for years scientist denied the existence of the silver back gorilla because something so big would've been spotted by more people. Well they were wrong.. so my thought is to an extent Arthur, Merlin Morgana existed irl... Merlin was probably an alchemist with some tricks up his sleeve, gunpowder and smoke related mixtures. Morgana much the same.. so the idea of them being in wizarding world lore does make me happy. As for morgana being the most powerful witch I guess it depends.. How does one view power? Is it the range of magic you can do? Your emotional control? For me neville was a powerful wizard, despite him being a bit slow, he held a secret of his parents being alive for years, he joined D.A and killed nagini. He was powerful in a different way than pure magic. So ye maybe she was one of the most powerful, but personally I can't consider anyone "the most powerful" / the number one slot

Having steeped myself in the Arthurian legends when I was a kid, I pretty well knew who Mogana le Fay was. What I feel is missing from the discussion is what exactly is the nature of magical power? How does a witch or wizard become powerful, or increase in power? What makes a witch or wizard more powerful than another? Is it rote memorization of spells, jinxes, charms? Is it memorizing a catalog of healing herbs and potions and their uses? Could a witch or wizard become powerful without a vast library of books which to consult?

@@kellysouter4381 No. There seems to be an inherent level of power. You inherit it. It's one of the reasons the bloodlines are so important to some of the witches and wizards, and why they look at muggleborn with contempt. At the heart of the issue is a dark truth, that magic power is actually something that passes through the family lines, and some are more powerful than others. What they do with that knowledge shows their character, their morality. Do they internalize this information and become arrogant, closed off, judgemental, etc... or do they choose to accept everyone for who and what they are anyway. It is one of the moral undercurrents throughout the entirety of the series.

I’ve always considered Morgan Le Fay and Morgana and sometimes Morgaine to be different characters, sisters, but depending on the text, they have different stories. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve read several of the original stories when I was at university: Geoffrey of Monmouth, Malory, The Mabinogion and Chrétien de Troyes and some of the modern adaptations which I can’t remember as much because I didn’t write papers on them. Morgan Le Fay is always more on the evil side and more of a foil to Merlin, whereas Morgana and Morgaine are more tragic tales or love stories.

Neither, her character is what writers call "subverted innocence." When an innocent (usually pure or good character) is warped into something evil or vile. She didn't ask to have magical abilities, and when her family and friends discovered she had them they turned on her like night and day and created the person she became. Even the height of her "evil" we see she isn't evil per se but more reacting to the situation she finds herself. In many of the episodes we see the good person come through until something happens again to twist her back into being bad.

QUESTION!!!! In the Sorcer's Stone, Voldemort was attached to Quirrel the entire time and knew Snape was trying to save Harry and Help him, so when he came to power once more wouldnt he have realized Snape isn't 100% loyal?

That's more answered in book 6, Half Blood Prince, when Bellatrix is questioning Snape's loyalty (right before he makes the unbreakable vow), he explains why he protected Harry then, and that Voldemort and himself have had a long discussion about his actions, and that he was accepted back because of it. More than anything, the reasoning being that Snape didn't know Voldemort was with Quirrel, and had thought Quirrel was acting on his own for his own ambitions, and thus stopped him.

@@mrdr0161 That's what I said. Snape was the greatest Occlumens. Which is why he was able to deceive the greatest Legilimens

What if Merlin was the Lockheart of his day, who claimed credit for all of Morganas achievements and slandered her as a villain so no one would believe her when she tried to set the record straight.

What about the Morrigan? I know she come later when we learn about Ilvermorny but I believe the myth of the Morrigan along with her story part in the Harry Potter world is stronger than Morgana

Should have known that you will be talking about her. Fun fact, there was a miniseries on the Syfy Channel that was about Merlin. It had Morgana in it, played by the same actress that also played Bellatrix LeStrange.

Movie staring Sam Neil as Merlin. One of my favorites. One piece of advice I got from that movie was; “And another thing young Merlin, don’t start giving advice”

Doing better, you took the hint about morganna... However, you are still forgetting Lilith. She may or may not be mentioned directly in the hp books, yet seeing as how she is the mother of banshees among several different cultural mythologies as well as the mother of demons biblically, excusing the demons is debatable but dismissing the banshee line isnt.
