Even though it technically doesn't count, Armando Gallaraga deserves a shout-out for his one hit shut-out, that was only not a no-hitter because of a blown call. That was such a surreal scene and the fact that umpire Jim Joyce showed legitimate remorse for ruining Gallaraga's bid for a perfect game made the whole thing even stranger.

I would argue the A's Mike Warren's no hitter against the White Sox in 1983 was more random than anyone on this list. He only started 27 games across 3 very lackluster seasons and then disappeared. Ironically Warren was gonna be thrown out of the game in the 2nd inning because of a brush back pitch he threw at Carlton Fisk in retaliation for a 9th inning home run that Fisk hit the previous game when the Sox were up by 12 runs and he had a 3-0 count, but a brash young manager named Tony LaRussa-in his first stint as manager of the White Sox -convinced the Umpire that Pudge deserved it. And for future reference. Any time you reference John Montefusco, you have to refer to him as John "the Count" Montefusco. I am pretty sure that is a written rule.

Late, but I have a few weird no-nos: 1. Bumpus Jones, October 15, 1892-The latest calendar regular season no-hitter, and the only no-no to be thrown in a pitcher's first career appearance, though not the only in a pitcher's first career start (we'll get to that). Jones, by the way, ended his career with a 2-4 record and a 7.99 career ERA. Ah, 19th century baeball. 2. Ernie Shore, June 23, 1917-What makes this one weird isn't Shore, but actually the Great Bambino himself, Babe Ruth. Yes, Babe Ruth started this game. So why am I listing this as Ernie Shore? Because Ruth walked the first hitter on a number of borderline calls, punched the umpire, and got ejected, leading to Shore taking over in relief, a rarity in those days. Shore proceeded to get the runner caught stealing, and then retire the next 26 straight; at the time, it was regarded as a perfect game. It is now merely a combined no-hitter. 3. Bobo Holloman, May 6, 1953-This one is random for the pitcher, the circumstances, and the team it was thrown for. Bobo Holloman pitched one year in the bigs, 1953, for the as usual moribund St Louis Browns. This was his first career start, though he had relieved in a few games prior. He only got the start because he kept bugging his manager, Marty Marion, for a start, who, in spite of knowing of Holloman's less than stellar stuff, wanted to shut him up. Contemporary reports say that everything was hit hard, but right at someone. The final score was 6-0. Holloman finished the year, and his career, with a 3-7 record and a 5.23 ERA. The Browns finished with a 54-100 record, and the next year, were in Baltimore as the Orioles. 4. Don Larsen, October 8, 1956-Perhaps the most legendary pitching performance of all time, the Larsen World Series Perfecto. Larsen perfectly fits this video, as he was a caereer journeyman, with an 81-91 career record and a 3.78 career ERA. Simply put, he was perfect on he biggest stage. 5. Dock Ellis, June 12, 1970-Finally, we have Dock Ellis, who did admittedly have a solid career, going 138-119 with a 3.46 ERA over a decade-long career. But what makes this no-hitter truly remarkable, and everyone has probably heard the story at this point, is that Ellis was high on LSD when pitching the game. Hungover is one thing, but high on LSD is several orders of magnitude weirder if you ask me, which lands it on here.

Of course I understand that as someone who relies on video in order to produce a video, you wouldn't consider someone who threw a no-hitter the year my 88 year old parents graduated from high school. Cliff Chambers threw a 3-0 no-hitter for the Pirates on May 6th, 1951, against the Boston Braves. He struck out four, but walked EIGHT. The Pirates traded him a couple months later to the Cardinals, where he put up some decent numbers for the rest of the season, but he was out of MLB after the '53 season, with a career 48-53, 4.29 ERA, and 6.8 WAR over seven seasons.
