The thing about this kind of physics sandbox is that there are certain kinds of simulations that aren't so "close" or "accurate" to reality when compared to a more traditional racing simulator. If you've ever tried lapping the Nurburgring Nordschleife with a high powered vehicle in this sandbox, trying to control it is a nightmare. This doesn't mean that BeamNG is inadequate as a simulator, it's just the parameters involved within BeamNG is very tricky to tune such that the vehicles behave more realistically. All of this is my uneducated opinion since I haven't actually done experiments between the different simulations to get hard data and find which bits are "more accurate" or "less accurate".

I wish somebody would make an endurance racing game on BeamNG’s engine. How amazing it would be to have something like a 24 Hours of Le Mans with a proper damage model and mechanical failures, especially on vintage cars. Imagine driving a GT40, where on top of dealing with the driving and strategy like usual, you’d have to actually take care of the car as those were rather fragile pieces of equipment. You’d have to make sure you revmatch properly or you’d lose the transmission and be gentle on the engine and brakes to preserve them.

I’d just like to say that calling Automation a “utility” for Beam is an underestimation. It’s a completely separate game with it’s own campaign mode and everything, and has been in development for almost as long as Beam has been. The car creator in Automation is among the most involved there is, going into fairly comprehensive detail be it in engineering or design. Not only that, the campaign mode goes deep into the business aspect of car production and is currently in rapid development. I absolutely love it, I’ve done almost 1000 hours in it alone. I highly recommend it if you love the work done behind cars 😄

And yes, I agree with the fact, that many see it too much as a one trick pony, that used only YT content creators for making yet another crash collection, when there is so much more under the hood. Cherry on top is the fact that I have great interest towards physics modelling, so... It is great to see how well it is done there.

Fun fact: The reason most big games don't have realistic damage is because car companies don't want their cars to look weak. BeamNG makes similar looking cars but they are not branded. AAA games can easily make realistic car damage but they want those sponsors.

I have to agree, having this game together with Automation is an ultimate win. Because besides driving the default cars, you can make your own ones and put them on a real test. And honestly, I don't regret a single cent I've paid for both of these game, they truly are a powerful combo.

Thank you. Same here, Rigs of Rods since 2007. Shame that no one knows about RoR as it kinda had the same physics but on an outdated engine. It had multiplayer too.

Beam Ng has an incredibly unique automatic gear box simulation. An old American truck feels like a super slow slush box. The BMW estate feels like a snappy 8 speed auto with normal and sport automatic shifting logics. I love the way it simulates kickdowns and upshifts early when driving slowly.

The way this game manages to be so complex while also staying fun for the average joe reminds me of kerbal space program. I believe a large part of that is due to it not taking itself too seriously, which is a great thing indeed.

Just dont go overboard with mods and ure game will run fine. The new Traffic Simulator edition that adds a variety of respawning cars in ure view and driving around on the AI path given by the map is also a really cool thing. Get chased by police like in NFS games and dodge police blockades formed with the cars in pursuit. A few maps are so large and still expanding that ull never find back from where u started (from the mod directory). The team is also apparently reworking all the original and still existing maps. Campaign is yet not a thing but announced with Coming Soon for quite some time. So being patient and enjoyed this game and being hyped for all the content coming constantly is just amazing 🙂

also the cars are very well designed. in something like gta they just took normal existing cars and made them ugly. these cars also use some stuff from the real world, but they honestly look like they could have come from some manufacturer without looking like exact copies.

Wow. I don't do driving games (or any other kind of games, come to that) but just like the hour I spent watching the "Banjo minnow" on an infomercial one night, I can truly appreciate the craftsmanship that's gone into this. I wouldn't play it but I could happily spend months just toying around with the code!

It’s the Minecraft of driving games. The graphics are passable, there’s no licensed content, you mostly play by your self and everyone loves it
