You only have yourself to blame. You said you did the Vallee Blanche because your wanted some extreme terrain. Everyone knows the VB is a very mild ski that has amazing scenery. Chamonix is a mecca for ski touring. If you're willing to work for your descents, it has some of the best steep off piste skiing in the world.

I skied this in the eighties and the glacier was deeper at the end so not as much of a climb over the moraine. A bit of herring boning and I skied all the way into town without taking my skis off. We skied multiple routes to the valley floor and into Italy. Today, I think Chamonix is perhaps too low to get good snow coverage to the valley very often and some of the classic lines end up in the Valley, then you catch a ride back to the ski lifts. If you live there and wait for the perfect conditions and either have a guide or know your way around, it is unbeatable, but can be a bit dangerous. Otherwise, I think you are better off at a place like Val d' Isere or Verbier for overall skiing. Anyway, I assume your comments were a bit tongue in cheek, ha!

You don't belong in the mountains. You belong at a resort that ties your bib on and caters to your every need, Had you done much research you would've known the descent is long, glaciated, morained and being that the massif is subject wild swings in weather offers inconsistent conditions. Plus the Mer de Glace has receded to rubble at the terminus leaving a hike.out, Maybe you should have checked the meteo at the compagnie de guides for the current and best info for the massif. The views not worth it?! You must be blind or the fog was in. Ya you need an all amenity included resort for the true mountain experience. Like Big Sky. Now that is a dung heap. I'll take one day at the Grand Montets over a season at Big Lie. Carry on ...

I do sort of get where you are coming from, but I disagree entirely with your sentiment. The Valley Blanche is not the most challenging descent you can undertake depending on the route you choose. But it is a bucket list item if you are a keen skier. Chamonix as a ski area is far from ideal having an expensive lift ticket and several separated ski areas. But each of those individual ski areas are different and have their own character. I found it interesting to explore each area each day, including Courmayeur in Italy. The Grand Montets is superb with the right conditions. I would go back and ski in Chamonix again. It sort of gets under your skin. I’m also really interested in Verbier based on your experience.

From your enjoyable video, perhaps you should concentrate on improving your skiing technique. Cham is the best place I’ve skied. There’s great off piste. It is unusual for a ski resort, in that it is a town. Actually it is more of a climbing resort than a ski resort. Far busier in the summer. You obviously didn’t have the best skiing conditions, though at least you had beautiful sunshine. Sometimes you can only see a few feet.

The only " disappointing " thing about this video is your negative viewpoint. If you did your research you would have known there is a hike in and out of this run so it's unfair to criticize this run for you not knowing what you were getting yourself into. The run itself is more about the freedom than the challenge.

A spoilt skier , who wants to ski in ski out. There is more to skiing than sliding about. You must climb Everest on a regular basis if the view from the Augile de Midi is poor.

Ive skied Chamonix lots of times and the VB is a day out....its an amazing experience. Ive also skied most of Europe inc Verbier lots which is ok, and also Colorado which I love. Chamonix is about the whole thing though...the altitude, the runs, the town, spectacular mountains its a cool place to hang out...and its a ski mecca. I even bumped into Glen Plake there once. Its hardly a waste of money...

I never understood chamonix as someone itching to ski in europe but too poor to do so. Everyone says it's all the rage but on the maps there isn't much skiing and it's very inconvenient. Pair that with extreme crowds and perennial rainfall and it seems pretty miserable if you just want to ski.

Hitting multiple resorts in Chamonix without a car seems like a pain. You could probably spend half your day just getting from mountain from mountain.

The most saddening thing in the Valley Blanche is the loss of ice due to climate change

Well at the very least it looked like it was a ton of vert lol. And some of it was a little steep. But at least it wasn’t moguled out hahaha. I appreciate the video because I will probably stay away from this one. Oh and on another note have you done the Chamoniix chutes at snowbird? They are pretty hairy 😬
