Horses can easily eat straw. However, they don't get a lot of nutrition from it. We're gotten straw round bales to spread out for giant beds under group shelters, and my horses chow down on straw. Never had one have a problem. All it does is pass through without giving up a lot of calories. If you have a really overweight horse that needs to go on a diet without taking away a lot of volume, straw can help with that. It'll fill them up and help them shed those extra pounds without feeling like they're starving. Just make sure you get fine stemmed straw so they don't have a hard time eating it. The course stuff makes great bedding.

The liveries at my stables have feed and hay then when they get turned out, all the ponies eat a lot of fresh grass because the fields they go in change so they have enough grass in the field all year long x

At 3:50 please tie up you haynets so your horse doesn’t get its legs caught in it because someone I know didn’t tie up their haynets high enough and got their horses legs stuck in them. Thankfully the horse’s legs didn’t break but if so it would of had to be put down

Genuinely curious... Why clip a horse's coat? Just for looks or is there a benefit?
@wintershock
Жыл бұрын
Where I live it’s usually done in the winter if the horse grows a thick coat and is still worked through the winter. It’s only done for horses with really thick coats just to prevent them from getting too hot when working. Not sure why it would be done in other times of the year though.

if you work a horse in the winter or the horse has that extra heat from being all sweaty, and it's hard for them to regulate their body temperature and they can get sick. Clipping makes it easier for your horse to regulate their body temperature.
@Kyy-Sokia

Sorry if this question sounds stupid (I don’t own any horses), but why do you shave horses?
@ashn1209
3 жыл бұрын
It's called clipping. you clip a horse to keep it's hair not as long so the horse can cool off after a ride, or so that the horse isn't so hot, hope this helped!
