Exactly. As the popular saying goes: "it's only illegal if you get caught." Who knows how many ppl we all know that have committed crimes, but they just haven't been caught. These ppl can be, and often are, these "stand-up, pillars of the community" types, so no one suspects anything. @@Tarot_Chateau Yeah, this has been said a lot and it is true. And what's worse is that you cannot blame anyone. Of course, those who want to be criminals know that so they "build" their life that way so they have a strong alibi.

This case was so odd, Jamie only lived 15 minutes away from my house and our community which was your typical rural family town was flipped overnight. Everyone was on edge, my dad bought over $500 in security cameras and made me sleep with my 20 gauge shot gun under my bed. My mom is literally friends with the woman who found Jamie. As I am really into true crime, it was insane to actually fear if "I'm going to be next" like so many other communities fear of. My love and regards goes out to Jamie and her family, the best part about the community was just the overwhelming support we had for her upon her arrival. I was also very happy to see everyone give her space and time to process without intruding on her privacy.

I think I checked every girl that passed by me that looked like she might be about her age. We all feared the worst after the amount of time that had passed, and what that psycho did to her parents, but we never stopped sharing her picture. When she was found it felt like a victory for everyone, we got one back. I only pray that the trauma that was caused to Jayme will be healed, and the pain of her loss lessened. @Don’t get Banned! Some people live off of the fear and chaos. Their life is so unfulfilling and sad that they figure what's even the point? I think it's fairly normal for a lot of people to think about doing something like this (Probably not with the murdering part though). Like I always thought wouldn't that be fun to get in a high speed chase with the police just to see if I could get away? Or be a bank robber and see how many banks I could rob before getting caught. Obviously I wouldn't want to hurt anyone but it's the thrill and excitement and rush of just doing something so insanely illegal and making it into a game of 'can I actually get away with it'. I think this was probably his 'motive' he didn't want or need to hurt the girl. He wanted to storm into someone's house and kill them and kidnap someone just to see if he could actually plan the perfect crime. It's unfortunate people had to lose their lives just so this guy could play a video game in real life. But, I'm sure if there's a heaven her parents are looking down on the situation just glad she wasn't hurt and would probably gladly give up their lives a million times if it means their daughter gets to live.

It really made my blood boil because this poor girl was 13!! How can grown adults be making jokes and memes about her going missing and her parents being killed?? Those couple months she was missing were crazy because most people were actually watching out for her and there were tons of false sightings being reported. It was such a relief when she was found alive. She very much deserved the reward for finding herself which turned out to be $25,000 (which was raised by the turkey factory that both her parents worked at). Everyone knows this kind of stuff happens out there but it's so chilling when it's close to home. Her Aunt that took guardianship after this was putting updates on fb for a while. When she was interviewed she said "She will talk when she's ready." And "She slept good last night." Which is so beautifully supportive.

MB - I love watching your videos because you’re such an engaging storyteller. Sometime ago I was married to a sociopath. Didn’t find that out until well into the marriage. He became emotionally abusive and then went after his kids physically. I protected those kids like a tiger. He was huge. 6 foot two about 200 pounds, and he boxed and lifted weights. He was a real athlete. I was very close to my step children and, having been abused myself, I felt like I had the strength of 10 men when I got in between him and his children. And he was never able to strike one of them. His ex-wife called to thank me and we started comparing notes and it turned out he had been telling me unbelievable lies from the very beginning. Eventually he started hitting me and then cheated on me. I was seeing a therapist. In our sessions I kept struggling trying to figure out how this guy was thinking and what his motives were. Eventually my therapist said, “look your brain is different from his. You will never be able to think like him or understand the way he’s thinking. But you need to get away from him because eventually he’s going to kill you.“ And so I left. He put me through a hellish divorce but he’s long been out of my life thank goodness. The point is that when you kept talking about how this didn’t make sense and there needed to be a motive I immediately thought about what my therapist told me. Mr. Ballen, you are such a good guy you will never ever be able to think like this man, or understand his thinking, or ever be able to figure it out. Your brain is just too different structurally. Thanks for your service to our country and for putting out a great channel.

Wow, that’s really interesting that Jayme and her mom barricade themselves in the bathroom before they knew knew who it was. In many of these stories, the victims intuitively know someone is evil or a certain situation feels very ominous. I can’t even imagine being Jayme and having her mom murdered in front of her and knowing her dad was murdered right outside of the bathroom. This kid may have had only a parking ticket, but evil had been sleeping into him for awhile. Poor girl....this made me cry, and I pray for her. 🙏🌷🌷🌷

If he yielded to the police, he probably wasn’t driving erratically or far over the speed limit, so they would have no reason. They just heard that a man was actively hunting down the people in that house with a shotgun, so if she wasn’t in the car and the attacker was slower, they would have been doomed by the police stopping to check a car on the road.

I don't know. There have been other documented cases of someone randomly deciding to do something horrible just because. No curiosity. No motive. They weren't insane either. Maybe it could be argued this is the most accurate definition of temporary insanity but even after psychological review it's determined that there weren't crazy. It's literally just a decent, average person randomly thinking "huh, I'm going to kill this person". Just as in this guy's case there's remorse and confusion on their part.

It’s ALWAYS like a cub scout leader, or some other wholesome seeming person. Understand that psychopaths and sociopaths not only hide in plain sight, but are frequently very successful. And not to blow your mind but psychopaths are not legally insane. It’s dangerous for you if you’re imaging that evil is visible, or that only the visibly insane commit these crimes. @@johnorsomeone4609 you're making a lot of assumptions and not grasping the point. Obviously people can hide being evil. Many do. However, there are cases where someone with no history of it, who never had the thought before, randomly decides to do something. I lived in Wisconsin when this all happened. About 80 miles from the town she was kidnapped in. I remember vividly crying the night it was announced she was found. Like Mr Ballin said, the community had all but given up on finding her. I was at a bar when they announced it on the news. It was like a movie. Everything stopped. The bartender turned off the music and turned up the tv. I remember crying out of joy, and out of sadness for her. I was a bit drunk, and my emotions really took over. That poor, poor kid. He was 21 years old. His “criminal history” was just beginning. I do not know him but I do know enough to say he was not an everyday ordinary person. If you were discussing a 40 year old with “no criminal history” it would have some relevance. Unless you have his full forensic psychological profile we should refrain from suggesting that an ordinary person can wake up and kill. His behavior is not inexplicable but rather, mere commonplace sociopathy. This guy was clearly a reclusive, budding young sociopath, detached from reality, getting his first taste of blood. Who knows what kind of serial-type behavior would ensue had he gotten away with it.

This kind of behaviour usually has roots on troubled upbringings and bad parenting, its extremely rare for someone to just randomly decide to kill some people and abduct someone. Most psycopaths dont randomly become killers, lots of them are butchers, surgeons, politicians and big names in big companies, the kind of people that can cut an animal or a person up without flinching, someone that can lie and manipulate everyone around them for personal gain or someone who can fire a hundred workers without caring for their lives and families because that is the best thing for the company they represent. The world's biggest and most important jobs are places where psycopathy is rewarded.

@Disciple You mean Y-chromosome Adam and mitochondrial Eve? Well, she certainly did not feed him anything, let alone an apple, because she lived about 100,000 years after he died. Meanwhile, humans know both good and evil because of the fact we are self-interested individuals who simultaneously rely on group-living. Thus, we are at the same time endowed with psychological adaptations to be extremely selfish, and also extremely self-sacrificing. It has nothing to do with sin, which is an old and really rather immoral concept of "evil as an offense to god". To me, good and evil have nothing to do with god, and everything to do with how you treat other people. God is irrelevant to human morality.

I get hooked reading comments and I was touched by yours. I am sure both Your Parents had fears too. Nothing is certain and the only guarantee in life is that it will end in death. You will love and feel the loss of love and rejection, relationships can be that way. I have experienced this Myself many times and had also feared them because of the possibility of rejection. I didn’t think My Dad knew what He was talking about when He told Me “women are like street cars, theres one coming along every 5 minutes” i think it was 5 minutes, anyway just remember that when You set Your eyes on someone and direct Your attentions to them You are also rejecting others. There will be girls who are shy or admire from a distance that You will never know. My Mother lost Her first born, who would have been My oldest Brother from Her first Marriage. He had a weak heart and was only month’s old. There is pain there too and a life never to be lived out. I am grateful that My Mom was able to give Me life. I have a older Sister from My Moms first Marriage and My older Brother and Two Younger Sister’s. I am in My second Marriage . Two Stepdaughter’s a Stepson and My own oldest Daughter from My first Marriage and Two Stepson’s and Two Daughters of My own from My Second Marriage . Three Grandsons from My oldest Daughter. My wife Is fourteen years younger than Me and in all the years of heartbreak and emotional drama I could never have imagined during those times that I would go on to remarry and Give life to Two More Daughters. When My own oldest daughter was about fourteen I was talking to Her about the someday when You have kids and She told Me She didn’t want Kids. They would interfere with Her plans of starting a all girl band, building a Ship and sailing around the World. She ended Up being a Mother at eighteen. When Her older Brother was about eight years old the school nurse told His Mom and I that He had ADD and should be put on Riddalin or some other drug for that. We said no and although He was never a outstanding student barely getting by He had artistic talent and very good in Martial Arts and a self taught piano player and speaker of Japanese. After 9-11 He joined the Army and became a paramedic with the Giessen Gunner’s of the 1st Armored Division during their second Deployment to Iraq where He served continuously for about fourteen months. During that time He treated many burns and shrapnel wounds and while detached for service with the reconstituted Iraqi military and police forces as their medic treated primarily gunshot wounds. He went on to become a Special Forces Doc,. Serving with the Green Berets of the 101st Airborne in many parts of the world. The military has a lot to offer for those who apply themselves. He now trains special forces Doctors and the language Schools are the best. He learned fluent Russian in a short time as well as other European languages and Congolese dialects. He recently graduated Summa Cum Laud Achievement with a Degree in Health Sciences. So You never know what kind of curve life will throw You. My Dad never Graduated From High School but went on to become a excavating and Grading Contractor and then Asphalt Paving Business that My Brother and I run. One of My Dads older Brother’s was eighteen years old and a sergeant in the combat engineers with the 289th regimental Combat Team when they stopped the 2nd SS Panzer Division at Grandmenil Belgium. You Can read My Uncle Jack O’ Connors obituary , Jack O’Connor of Moraga, another example of a rewarding life accompanied by tragic loss and hardships to be overcome. My paternal Grandfather at eighteen Survived the Battle of Adwa later immigrated here to Fairfax, California USA to work as a machinist and Blacksmith for the railroad and with My Grandmother who came at Fourteen from Chiavri to live with Her Uncle raised a family of seven girls and five boys. My Dad always talked about growing up during the depression. I read Your comment and the thought of facing lifes challenges got me to thinking about Robert The Bruce sitting in the cave watching a spider and My favorite Henry the Fifth St Crispians Day. Anyway if You search Ernie Magri of Sacramento Ca. Another of My Uncles who was in the 14th Armored when they Liberated POW’s He talked about Giving a Bicycle to a Liberated British Soldier so He could peddle back to England . I really liked the video a Young Man made about His Experience in the British Sea Cadets Two of My Sons born ten years apart on August 22nd Share that birthday with James Richard Dacres . Read the Bible especially Proverbs and over time You will gain a better understanding. A book Titled David and Goliath may also be of interest as well as Never Call Me A Hero and The Shack.

Doors went from unlocked to locked, keeping an eye out for suspicious activity, etc. The area of where she was found is very remote and usually no cell signal either. For her to be found alive, was a true miracle. The Sheriffs Dept had a tip line/FB page and took 1000s of suggestions. I indicated to look at the dash cams of the squads responding in order to get a license plate of any vehicles they encountered en route to the house. They tried but dark and high speeds don’t work very well for quality video. Such a brave soul and from what I’ve heard locally, she is doing very well and has adjusted after this horrific case.

The local business gave her the $25,000 that they promised and put up. But I couldn't get it clear answer on whether or not the FBI put up their share it seemed like they were kind of arguing it...

Yeah there will be a reason, just not one most of us would accept because we like to think we would choose differently. The scary thing is that it's only luck that you're not him. If you were him and went through his life all the way up until that point, you would do the same thing he did. There wouldn't be some tiny part of the you that you are today but in his body, you would literally be exactly him. And it's only luck that you weren't born as him. I still don't feel sorry for his punishment, and think it should be worse, but I'm so grateful that I was born as me, or at least one of us 'normal' people who makes mistakes we can all recover from
