I played Pendragon at my gaming club in high school which our history teacher ran. He had us all design our own coat of arms and the painted knight miniatures for each of us to play with based on the colours of our designs. He then printed out the coat of arms to match the scale of the shields on the miniatures so he could cut them out and glue them on. Not only did my knight use the same exact colours as your Jean Sanglier, but also had a boar as in his crest, along with it being on top of his helmet. Just a cool coincidence I guess.

@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Great video, but I found the music to be way to loud. I strongly suggest lowering it for future videos or even better not having it at all. I strongly believe background music is distracting, annoying, and unnecessary especially for videos with lots of talking. Salutations Sir Eric ! Absolutely love those Bretonnians of yours... I was eager to see those in action but this Jousting game is absolutely brillant ! And hearing their names in my native language was just the cherry on top, I was in shambles every time ! I'm quite intruiged by Georges Le Batard though... A terrible name, and a befitting crest on his helm ! Commoners usually chose the Lion for their heraldry ("Qui n'a pas de nom a un Lion pour blason", as they say, Who has no name bears a Lion on his shield) but Georges must have some interesting qualms about his ancestry, or a rather colourful personnality ! Same goes for Le Main... The correct french way of saying it should be La Main, or Le Poing (the Fist), but the misgender combined with his Knightly Virtue makes for a great double entendre, as "maint" is an old french adjective meaning "many" or "plenty", giving away either his wealth and arrogance or his true origins as a commoner ! Anyways, I disgress, it was beautiful and inspiring as always.
@EricsHobbyWorkshop
2 жыл бұрын
I’m glad you liked the names! I read somewhere that a bend sinister indicates bastardy in heraldry, so Georges Le Batards name reflects that. In my imaginary backstory, he is the bastard son of a noble, and he won his knighthood by slaying a green dragon, which he took as his crest! I have an excel document keeping track of all the names and backstories … 😂
@RedGnoll
2 жыл бұрын
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop I knew this knight had some interesting backstory ! You are right indeed, the Barre is a common sign of bastardry used to "diminish" the honour of a Coat of Arms, the most famous example of this practice being Jean "the Bastard of Orléans", a companion of Joan of Arc. I love how much detail and thought you put in those characters, and I'm not surprised in the least that you had to write some of it down to keep track !

By strange coincidence- last night I was running a game of WFRP (2e), and one of my players expressed an interest in his character starting to joust. It wouldn't make much sense from a story perspective (as he is playing a wood elf, and the party is currently in Altdorf), but I don't want to say no. Mostly because I really liked Full Tilt, and I kinda want to see him try and joust his way into his career goal of actual knighthood...

I had the idea a while back for an all-knight D&D campaign. Where the party all had nightly titles, and adventured as much to gain Prestige as to acquire treasure. While slaying monsters, rescuing endangered civilians, and thwarting dastardly villains were viable methods of gaining Prestige, they could also engage in other methods. Challenging other knights to duels, going on holy pilgrimages, retrieving lost relics, or participating in tournaments. "Knight", in this case, would be a title, not a strict description of the PC's character class. So while the PCs with armor and mounts would join the jousts, spellcasters could engage in arcane duels, ranged combatants could join an archery competition, Monks might square off in martial arts competitions, and Bards might try to out-perform others in a musical or performing contest. All the players could have a chance to earn Prestige in a manner fitting their party role.

I have a digital collection of WD magazines from 1977 to 2014 and I never noticed this game before for some reason (although I don't remember reading this issue either). This also reminds me of "Tavern Brawl", another one of those minigames published in White Dwarf.

Great video! Especially now that everything is outdoors now in Necromunda, we need fun games in games like this in that game as well as Full Tilt reprinted in Warhammer community ASAP .
