I love Uniqlo however their sizing inconsistency is a pervasive problem. I wear anything from an XS to a M with their clothing and can never know what to expect. They charge both ways for shipping. I strongly suggest buying in-store only with them. One of the big advantages to in-store shopping (at least their flagship Soho location in NYC) is also free hemming of trousers. The place becomes a zoo on weekends though.
@Orzorn

Uniqlo for me is all about the underwear and socks. I always end up buying a few pairs when I go and replacing my old non-Uniqlo pairs because they're just so much more comfortable.
@WiiAllTheWayHome

I would suggest looking up the numerical/actual sizing for their items. Like the measurement of the sleeve length, width, inseam, etc. if you know what measurements look good on you, you can narrow it down that way. Each item will have that information for their sizes, and I’ve seen shirts vary from 22 inches wide for oxfords to 24 for linen. Their website will pull comparable last purchases and you can anticipate sizing that way to reduce returns. There’s always some guessing based on material properties and stretch but I’ve really nailed down certain sizes I can rely on.

t @WiiAllTheWayHome Some do and some don't. They have an auto size feature where you put in your height and weight, but I get the same inconsistent results. They do have this new feature I haven't yet tried where you take a photo of yourself and upload it. I can give it a try, but I have my doubts. Like many retailers these days they source from a very wide variety of constantly changing manufacturers. The problem isn't unique to them, but a v-neck sweater and a crew neck sweater in the same series for example have significantly different dimensions in the same sizes. Fit is king and baggy or too tight is a constant issue.

Very surprised you guys overlooked Spier & Mackay, they're something of a underdog goldenboy in a lot of menswear circles. They're genuinely one of the best values out there especially if you want that soft shouldered classic American Ivy look.
@jake2011rt

They’ve covered their shirts before, and I wouldn’t call them underrated. They are such a golden boy to many that they are dangerously close to being overrated. Besides this, they suffer from some massive size/fit issues with their larger sizes which indicates that they don’t scale up their patterns very well. It’s a consistent complaint from larger men (like myself) that S&M sizes consistently run close to two whole sizes smaller than other brands (when dealing with non-measurement based sizes).

It's worth to mention uniqlo's stable approach to their regular collections. If you buy a sweater from them, you can easily come back in 5 years and get the same model, same color, for roughly the same price. They don't change collections every year, at least for the daily classics.

Besides LL Bean sweaters, they offer very good OCBDs, corduroy and chinos pants. I’ve known about them for years, so it’s hard to understand how they have escaped the classic menswear eye. One aspect of Bill’s Khakis that is worth mentioning - they leave quite a bit of fabric along the seams, so a tailor can do quite a bit to adjust the pants should you put on a bit of weight. They also will do made to order for customers, though you have to go through a retailer that carries their brand in the store.

I'm a fairly new viewer, started watching just over a year ago to help develop a proper adult wardrobe. After watching the Gazette videos about sleepwear and house wear I bought a Baturina dressing gown/robe to keep warm in my basement. I chose to fully customize it and I love how it looks. I do have a couple thoughts, 1: the lining options are mostly polyester but if you choose a cotton lining it will be harder to put your arms through, 2: the arm holes are quite big, I don't know if this is the norm and I don't know if Baturina can make them smaller, but with the robe tied closed it's rather difficult to raise my arms.

I've been a Lands' End customer for decades, but in recent years they've been limiting options, and they've developed some odd ideas about sizing. To quote an email from their customer service, "The item if ordered in a 32, will not be a 32-inch measurement as it would be too tight for the person who would be wearing the item. The size would be increased by one and a quarter inch with a factor of plus or minus .5 inches. The size 40 that you have ordered would measure 41.25 inches (+/- the .5 inch)." My 40s were a full 42 in. This has happened a couple of times, so IMO it's some combination of odd thinking and lax QC.
