The reason BABYMETAL has that staff approval requirement for photos is because of incidents in the past with photographers taking distasteful photos of the girls and posting them on Getty. I'm talking upskirt shots and bending over shots (all 3 were underage minors at the time too btw). Web articles covering their shows were using those photos. So they have experiences to fuel their distrust of media. BABYMETAL promotes a more family friendly approach to metal, and they specifically don't sexualize their image at all. So they make sure third parties are not misrepresenting what they are about.

Lots of Truth here, sadly. BabyMetal started as literal teen-aged girls...die-hard fans have always rooted for the Girls' success and progress all along the way, watching them evolve their vocal talents and pick up instruments... and have seen them evolve over a decade! Its been fascinating to watch in real-time, like WWE. But, yeah, along the way, there have been some weirdos that have tried to get in and be perverts. The girls don't deserve that kind of treatment, especially considering all the on-the-ground work they have put in and all the "old-heads" of Metal they have brought back into the fold. They are simply following the Fox God's Commission: "Resurrect the Old Metal Gods!" Rob Zombie APPROVED!

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Been Metalling and Headbanging since I first saw Sabbath live in 1976, when the only genre was Heavy Metal. By the end of the 20th century, after experiencing many new genres of Metal form and grow, I gave up hope of seeing something new (I think Slipknot were the last original act I saw). Then, in 2016, I discovered Babymetal and their unique new genre, Kawaii Metal - and everything got better again! Through them, I discovered that while they were a shining jewel live, there was a whole treasure chest of female and female-led Metal and Rock bands in Japan and that they were all contributing to the very best Metal and Rock of the 21st century. Babymetal led me to discover, in 2018, THE best Hard Rock band on Earth, Band-Maid, and from there a lot of new Metal acts - Nemophila, Lovebites, Asterism to name 3. The future of great musicianship, superb songs and incredible live performances is safe in the hands of Japan's ladies. It's most refreshing not to have to watch a lot of snarling, growly faces (and the 'look-how-hard-this-is-face!) any more too - it's all smiles with all of the above bands, even when they are playing very complex and often difficult pieces.

Babymetal is more akin to a ritual. The phenomenon around Babymetal is much like a spiritual experience for people similar to what’s happening around Sleep Token, but geared more towards a hyper active dance party dialed up 11; and a more established fan base. They’ve been doing this for over a decade now. I’m glad you experienced this, because now you see how far ahead Babymetal is for their time if metalheads in the mainstream are just starting to come around to what kind of experience you can bring to people with metal outside of just music they can blast in their car.

I saw another photographer talking about his experience photographing a Babymetal show, his story was similar to yours except his was during The Avenger era where the three dancers including Momoko were dancing in the third spot but not officially part of the band, he was told that he could not take photos of the Avenger unless either Su or Moa were in the shot as well. He also had to submit his photos for approval before they could be published, however he was allowed to keep the ones that did not make the cut for his own personal collection he was just not allowed to publish them anywhere, obviously they did not want shots that weren't flattering to them to make it out there. I assume that is also how they edit their videos which is why they always look so perfect in those, and shots where they are a little out of sync or any mistakes that is where you get a shot of the band lol. it sounds like despite the restrictions you were looked after. Another thing about the energy of the fans, the girls directly feed off it and although you always get an impeccable performance from them them the better the crowd responds the better the girls seem to perform, So anyone attending the shows from the rest of the tour, forget how you think others might perceive you, just let go and have fun you will get a better show.

I saw them in CT on Saturday, and both Dethklok and Babymetal absolutely melted face. The opener was Jason Richardson who was also quite good. You hit the nail on the head with Babymetal's crowd energy, people were going absolutely nuts. To make a comparison, I feel like I got a 1% glimpse of the KPop fandom, haha. As for Dethklok, I didn't mind only seeing their silhouettes, it kind of made them feel a bit more like the cartoon characters. I was initially less excited for Dethklok, because I saw them back in 2012 for dethalbum 3, but as soon as they hit the stage with the Opening Dethklok theme song, all my love for them came rushing back. The venue was seated though, and that didn't quite feel right for a metal show. I regret not getting pit tickets. Sorry that the media experience was so weird and you couldn't fully enjoy the show.

But when the ambulance came he wasn't about that and refused the ambulance. Him and his girl walked away into the night.

@@heavymetalphilosophy I just realized you weren't in the Orlando show :( Just saw your post on twitter about Babymetal fans being passionate. For me this was a wish come true. I've been listening to them since I was in high school and they debuted. Never in my life I thought I would be able to see them live, even less front row. It was truly an amazing experience. Orlando show was sold out with 10k people in attendance. What a perfect night.

I went to this show as well! It was so much fun! I hadn't seen Babymetal since they toured as an opening band for RHCP. This show was so sick! Deathklok was amazing as well. I had never listened to them prior or watched the show so I was quite blown away. This concert was definitely one for the books. Glad you enjoyed it too! Thanks for reviewing the show.

Man, that sounds really annoying. I would love to get some kind of explanation for why their requirements are so strict for photographers. As a fan I want tons of photography so I can enjoy everything I didn't see myself. But anyway yeah I went to the show in Dallas and I enjoyed the hell out of myself. I've been to see Dethklok three times and I love the show and band. Just amazing. Also the Kami Band are super incredible musicians and sounded absolutely incredible. First time seeing Babymetal, they're fantastic live. PS. I will check out your other videos, but as an amateur photographer I am interested in your gear and settings. I mostly do outdoor nature stuff but I'd love to know how to take a good photograph in those kinds of light settings.
@heavymetalphilosophy

From the comments I'm gathering in the past someone took photos of them in what could be considered evocative positions and published them. They didn't like that. That actually makes a lot of sense to me. And they sent approval of my shots this morning so the team was very quick. 👍🤘 As for my settings the big thing is to have a lens that can have a very big aperture due to the low light situations. I've gone as big as 1.4
@ncwolfe
Жыл бұрын
@@heavymetalphilosophy Not a totally unbelievable explanation but Koba-san is famously very protective of them and doesn't allow much photography under any circumstances. You make it sound easy but catching fast movement in dark lighting is just a nightmare to me. Thanks for answering!
@heavymetalphilosophy
Жыл бұрын
@@ncwolfe Oh yea, It's challenging for sure. The big aperture for the low light but the fast movement is another factor. For that I keep my shutter speed low like 160ish and use burst mode. But yea I took over 700 (Burst Mode!) pics of BM and selected a couple dozen to submit. I just thought black metal bands are hard to shoot.

I have not seen Dethklok, but I have seen the show, so I do expect them to put on a heck of a show. Now, as for BabyMetal, I have seen them once in Japan and once in the States, so I know what you mean by the crowd going insane for the girls. The main girl, Su she has a hell of a voice. But BabyMetal has a massive backing corporation, so they really put a lot of time and money into getting ready for a tour. If you have not seen them, go see them. They do not disappoint.

So, then we have an animated death metal band and a kawaii-metal group. How do you even begin to describe this to an outsider? LOL. Most Unique certainly qualifies.
