The heart of this system is a Soundcraft UI24r which in conjunction with five Behringer DI4800A's gives us 20 physical inputs plus an RCA stereo in. this is more than sufficient for our Trio and we still have a number of spare channels for guest musicians and potential future expansions.
Some of the biggest advantages of this system:
- we can either send each channel separately (dry) to the FOH, or for smaller gigs we may want to send a stereo out from the mixer and use one of the aux's for the bass bin. this way our sound engineer can walk around and mix the show in his tablet.
- it gives us ten Aux sends which can either be used as five stereo or ten mono IEM's.
- each musician controls their own In-ear mix using their phone.
- doesn't require an App to control the mixer.
- we record every show multitrack (each channel separately) to a thumb drive for later mix. This feature by itself is an absolute treasure.
- virtual soundcheck (also a gift from heaven)
- it's compact: the entire system fits in a 6U rack and can be controlled by a tablet or even a phone if you will.
- it sits on the stage right behind the band, thus there's no need for long cables.
All in all, this system has been working flawlessly for us in the past three years. We've never ran into a connection loss or any other technical issues. the only time we experienced an interference was at an open-air concert when we just had bought the mixer and didn't have an external router. also we were using it 2.4GHz. we solved the issue by buying a cheap external router and switching to 5G signal and haven't experienced any interference ever since.
what's your experience with Soundcraft UI24r?
leave a comment and let's help eachother improve our gear.
Cheers
