That MrBeast scenario is a simple solution. The FTC exists to shut down things like illegal lotteries and malicious giveaway practices. If some of the claims in the video are true, I don't think Jimmy's going to be able to stop the federal government from investigating, and I honestly can't imagine he'd have made it this far without some inquiries. Also, that "no purchase necessary" entry method is standard for almost all sweepstakes. It's so ubiquitous that I've always assumed it's the bare minimum required by law.

My doctor prescribed a version of Ozempic almost three years ago. I was on it for maybe six months to a year before the craze started and it was the first med that helped with my insulin resistance from my polycystic ovarian syndrome, but since so many people want it to lose ten pounds for their distant whoever's wedding, my insurance stopped paying for it. If I want that med now, I have to pay over a THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH because people buying it out has made it more scarce, so my insurance company only pays for it if you're diabetic, but I was using it to AVOID BECOMING DIABETIC. I used to have a saying - Elk Grove PD causes more accidents than they respond to. I was hit by an EGPD when I was 7 months pregnant on my way to work. Luckily we were fine, though my car was totalled, the officer was making an illegal left turn pursuing someone who had allegedly made an illegal left turn. There were enough witnesses in my case that the officer was at fault and that there was no way I could have seen (or heard -no siren) him coming that I didn't have any hassle. (that and as a pregnant white woman, they didn't want to go there). I personally saw at least three instances of EGPD rear-ending people who didn't move fast enough when the light changed. They pulled over my non-white boyfriend multiple times when he was driving my car for "driving while brown". I could fly by them at over the speed limit and switching lanes and they'd get near me, take a look at me and then just go on about their business. Sadly, this story doesn't surprise me at all.

As someone who works in reality TV, these are all pretty standard practice - audio de-sync shots, timer manipulation, the last second push to the clock. The challenge side is a little less clear. Often times if there is money on the line to be won, most if not all competition shows have a off camera scoring system of some kind, especially if they are judging things like art or food which can be subjective. This not only helps incase someone decides the competition was unfair and attempt legal action, but it can also help actual producer decisions when things get tight! Although, there isn't much scrutiny on the scoring side. In practice - theres nothing to stop producers from making their own decisions. "At producers desecration" is written in to almost every reality competition contract out there. NO reality show is a straight up fair game. The way most shows are cast, you know from the beginning who the top players will be at the end. The main focus is usually to find the organic fun bits or story, and lean towards those, in addition with some planned bits. Like Gordon Ramsey does on almost every show, or Top Gear, or every dating show ever. It's always a combo of planned and unplanned things. But when it's kids or teen content, you don't need to hide it as much because it's easier to make believable. Again, these to me read as pretty standard practice things.

i think the main issue isnt whether what Mr beast is doing is ok or not. i think that's a big thing people are getting stuck on. not the more important aspect the issues of legality is not whether or not these are things u can or not do its how its being advertised Is it either A: A channel in which everything is faked like a reality tv show but is actually trying to use the fakeness to try and scam children into spending money on lotteries they will never win because they arent real B: is it a game show channel that is rigging competitions and rigging lotteries alongside other devious practices to get children to gamble on the thinnest line between legal and not legal either way you look at its not good but the least bad would be the game show angle because rigging and the gambling aspects will be easier to argue around. plenty of KZitemrs have done similar things and not gotten sued so there is probably some legal grey area. its very bad not good if it A because that can become a whole can of worms illegal practices as far as I'm aware a reality tv show which are fake cant engage in their audience to engage in fake things that arent real because the show itself isn't real.

As an Aussie who works as a “practice patient” for paramedics, this is absolutely disgusting. There are so many medical issues that could be sudden onset and course someone to look “drunk” without touching a drop of alcohol. I’ve actually saw a video before about a driver who was serving all over the road and speeding. A motorcyclist was on the phone with police while following the driver. He mentioned he thought the driver was drunk but also said it could be a medical emergency. Many other cars attempted to get the man to pull over. When they finally did and the motorcyclist opened the driver side door, it was plain as day that the driver wasn’t drunk. Everyone spoke to him calmly and tried to help him. His eyes were very big but distant and he was gripping the wheel. It turned out that the driver had a stroke while he was driving and unfortunately a side effect was the speeding and swerving. As I was typing this… I realized Phil might have done the video about it years ago.

He told us we were covering for a dope head, arrested him, then torn his car apart searching it. He then took our friend to jail and never mentioned that we told him about the diabetes. We called the jail and drove there and were assured the nurse would be checking his blood sugar. We came back to bail him out and were then told he couldn't be released because he had "become more intoxicated since arriving". At that point my ex and I just yelled "HE'S DIABETIC" and the deputy RAN from the room to get him medical attention. His blood sugar was 30 when they finally checked.

To add to the already horrific situation in Southport: There were riots outside the local mosque by the EDL a far-right Islamophobic group feigning care for the families effected and fuelling more hate by painting guilt by perceived association (the perpetrator was Rwandan). The riots were mostly done by people from out of town and it resulted in 39 injured officers (actual members of our community) getting injured with injuries ranging from fractures to lacerations, a police van was set on fire and left to burn through the night, the entire street has been destroyed. This is my town, I went to school with Joel, and one of my close friends is Leanne's cousin. The town was already ripped apart by the tragedy as it was. End of the day it doesn't really matter the specifics. The judge shot Paxton down. My OC was mostly commenting on pretext. But yeah, because child protection laws exist, advertising things like gambling (including through sweepstakes) and smoking/drugs is illegal to people under 13. this is why having any references to those makes a game or movie instantly PG13 at a minimum, and is why the flintstones eventually ended up getting cancelled after 6 seasons, they were sponsored by a cigarette company, its characters appeared in ads, and a law was made saying you cant do that.
@coppercorn

@@zackestin1368 You should be careful about making sweeping statements. Things are advertised to adults AND children all the time. What you can't do is advertise adult things to children. That aside, there's still a lot that has to go into such claims. One, is what he's doing actually classified as gambling. Just because one person thinks it is, doesn't mean it falls under the legal definition of gambling. Two, you have to prove that his target audience for that particular product is minors. Three, it IS still pretty much standard practice. Those things still occur on cereal boxes and snack foods nationwide, all targeted at kids. I guarantee you, if any of what was described in the "hit video" was illegal, he would have been taken down long ago. He went from saying a bar the reviewer didn't like was defective, to it saying it's an 11 out of 10, to assuming the reviewer's tastes so he will say it's good, to throwing some bars away so he doesn't try something he might not like.

I hate to even say this but you can absolutely be arrested for being behind the wheel of a vehicle even when the engine isn’t on. It should not be that way and I swear it wasn’t for a long time. I seem to remember back in the 90s when a bunch of people were arrested for drunk driving, there were PSAs that stated that if you feel either too tired or too under the influence of something (be it medication or alcohol), it was okay to pull over and sleep it off. It was actually preferred that you didn’t start up your car to begin with, stay in the location you are at, and sleep it off. If you were still too inebriated to drive, then get a room. Anything was better than driving drunk. And that was the way I thought it had stayed for decades until I heard about a man who had not only not started his car, he hadn’t even left his location, and fell asleep behind the wheel to sober up. He was arrested too. The kicker was, he hasn’t buckled his seat belt nor was his car keys in the ignition. I am aware that not all cops bother with this. They will either issue a warning to the driver or write a ticket. The arresting is only if they are meeting quotas or just being an *sshole.

@@cdw97The position that they put you in to handcuff you is not a position your body likes to make, it’s unnatural and forces you to contort in a way your body doesn’t want to. A lot of the time you hear a cop screaming “stop resisting” when they’re handcuffing someone isn’t because that person is actually physically resisting at all, it’s their body being forcibly contorted in a way that’s uncomfortable and reflexively people will try to ease that pain, even when trying to comply. Even police admit to this being a fact. There’s a newsletter you can look up “Michigan Municipal League, Handcuffing Can Be Excessive Force” By Gene King, Enforcement Action Forum Coordinator “Police use handcuffs and other restraint devices when a subject needs to be restrained or controlled. Handcuffs are considered an officer safety device because it is safer to control a subject if they do not have free use of their hands and arms. Handcuffs are uncomfortable, especially when cuffed behind the back. Being handcuffed behind one’s back affects a subject’s ability to maneuver on their feet. It is an unnatural position for the arms to be in and, even though properly applied, the cuffs are going to apply pressure to the wrist area as they restrain the movement of a subject. Improperly applied handcuffs can cause more pain and even injury. There can be a number of physical conditions that may cause problems and preclude a subject from being handcuffed behind their back. “

@@Stevo.100You should watch more real life videos about police. I’ve seen countless videos from police officers bodycams of them screaming “STOP RESISTING” to people who are clearly complying, but because they said stop resisting it gives them “cause” to use force so when they brutalise or murder they’re victim they can always claim they felt “threatened”. I’ve seen multiple videos of cops planting drugs on someone they’ve arrested to give them cause. I’ve seen videos of people getting multiple cops just laying whole clips into people TRYING to comply. But because police generally aren’t too intelligent there’s 3 of them shouting 3 different conflicting orders. One yelling put your hands up, one yelling get on the floor and one get your hands behind your back. Seeing the victim confused trying to comply but not knowing which order to follow and getting murdered in cold blood. The lady who recently got shot in the face in cold blood in her own home for turning off a pot of boiling water, something the officer had ORDERED her to do. "It's just marketing/oh he's just a good marketer" - Y'all, you need to remember this is in regards to children. Sure, Cartoon Network will advertise Adventure Time toys or whatever, but the show doesn't constantly have Finn look at the camera and tell you that "hey if you watch this show for 2 hours or buy this stuffed animal, you may win $1000". This was also a huge concern regarding the Paul brothers and how often they plugged their merch; the people children are watching are using manipulative tactics to convince them to buy their merch. Mr. Beast has cultivated an audience that believes interacting with him, be it through subscribing, buying merch, or even re-arranging his chocolate in stores to look better (yes, really) will give you life changing money, when the chance of that actually happening are next to nothing. Children, and many adults, struggle to really rationalize that. If you think no child convinces their parents to buy excess chocolate or shirts out of hopes of winning, you're delusional. Mr. Beast, and some of his defenders, hide behind the shield of altruism while getting disgustingly wealthy by kickstarting gambling addictions in children. Please actually watch the video before coming to conclusions. I'm not saying I believe it wholesale, and I do think some of his points were explained poorly, but I also find a lot of it genuinely concerning, even more so with how much people are willing to hand wave it away. Every rebuttal I've seen go after his weaker points, and not his actual (imo) robust criticisms like the forged autographs or unclear/illegal giveaway tactics.

If the parents can be convinced to waste money they don't have on junk their kids don't need, that's not the business's fault. That's the parents' fault for not being parents. I think you aren't aware of how much money is spent on knowing exactly how to get people and kids to buy their products. The lottery is exactly the same and no one bats an eye at that. When it literally lies about where the money goes, claiming it goes to schools. It keeps poor people poorer and often leads the winners to lives of ruin. And I know plenty of people that include their children in keno, scratch offs, etc. Those toys you can collect that are mystery bags until you open them, with the intention of collecting all the different ones? That is gambling targeted at children. No one talks about or complains about those.

Well the initial call was he was a shooting victim. Cops probably handcuffed him for safety reasons thinking guns may be involved.

That concept of the illegal lottery from MB could also be applied to Temu where they're all about "6 free gifts, just send 16 text messages with a link to people you know." It's a common advertising ploy for the times.

Temu is from the PDD company in China. On their native platforms, if you want to buy something for cheaper, you need to engage your friends to log in and do some sort of activity on the app. Referral texts is just the beginning. Not defending it just explaining it from POV of someone who buys from their domestic platform.

You're comparing Mr Beast to Temu in an attempt to defend him? Temu? Are you _absolutely_ sure?

Are we just going to forget Lunchables, Cereals, Yogurt, Doritos, Mountain Dew, Any Food that has anything close to a market already does these sweepstakes to drive sales, and never have I ever seen anyone ever win a single one, except for the Pikachu Punch Bug? If that was actually even given away? I get the lottery aimed at children schtick, and a lot of the other stuff, but I also can't see Mr. Beast being worse than any other corporation that already does this kind of thing. The only difference is Mr. Beast giving away money carries more weight than some Nabisco cookies. I had my mom buy a ton of Lunchables back in the day so I can win a Mario Party 2 contest and Hoobastank would play at my house or something, but it's Mr. Beast, so it's a lot worse I guess.

For me, the worst thing about the MrBeast info presented is the livestream shirt pushes. So scummy. Especially with his awareness of the demographics of his audience. The Feastables stuff is a close second I think.

Lmfao "you have to actually hand write your free entry tickets so they arent really free!" Is not the take I was expecting when I saw this whole thing. Like has he never read any other sweepstakes rules before?

In regards to the MrBeast thing, sounds like this guy is a disgruntled employee. Didn’t even make it past the probation period. 😂
