On January 26, 2014,16-year-old Canadian cellist Bryan Cheng makes his Esprit Orchestra debut performing the third movement from Concerto for Cello No 1 by Gabriel Prokofiev.
Canadian cellist Bryan Cheng discovered his love for the cello at age three and half. He started with the Suzuki music program in Ottawa with the late Pawel Szymczyk-Marjanovic, followed by studies with Anne Contant at the Conservatory of Gatineau. From age 8 to 15, he studied with the late cellist and conductor Yuli Turovsky in Montreal. Currently, he is a student of Hans Jorgen Jensen. At age 14, Bryan made his critically-acclaimed New York debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall with his pianist sister, Silvie, to a sold-out audience. Following that concert, the Cheng2 Duo was invited to give a return appearance in the same hall in April 2013 -- the sold-out recital included the world premiere of two pieces by Canadian composer Alexina Louie. The sibling duo has given recitals and performances throughout Canada, the United States, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Holland, China, and South Korea. Bryan has appeared as soloist many times with numerous orchestras, performing concerti by Haydn, Boccherini, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, and Shostakovich.
