@@ashleysmith1369 I completely understand that decision. It’s a very hard and individual choice and I’ll never judge a parent for the decision they choose to make. Holy cow. This might be from my high school. The timeline in the story matches, the sex and rough age of the fetus, even the jar and the little fabric cover. I remember our teacher pulling this out to show us once. If it is, I am glad he found a good home where he can continue to educate with the respect he deserves. He also had other problems which he has overcomed, thanks to science and his strength. They didn't know if he would survive the first weeks. My Mom's Mom had a blue "stillborn" baby 2x in the 50's. The Drs told my Grandfather that the babies, both times, were beautiful, 10 pound babies, born with their hearts beating, but the Dr or nobody could get them to take a breath. Decades later, when my daughter was born bluish, she was diagnosed as having a major heart defect that was repaired 2 months later. When we asked the pediatric cardiologist @ UK, if it was likely that heart defects had caused the stillborn brother & sister than neither my Grandmother, nor my Mom & her sisters ever saw. He said it was "extremely likely". Drs never say anything's 100%. When my husband died of COVID-19 on 11-15-20 (& I almost did) people still said "it was probably COVID-19"... even with both of us testing positive.

it must have been blue baby syndrome or cyanosis, due to uneffective closing of foramen ovale; a passing present between our right and left atrium. During pregnancy, it is open but after normal deliveries, it is supposed to close and form fossa ovalis. However, in some cases, the foramen ovale doesnt close properly or not at all, and there becomes a gap between the right and left atrial chambers of the heart. Hence, the oxygenated blood from the left atria and deoxygenated blood from the right atria get mixed, resulting in lesser amounts of oxygen in the blood. As a result of lacking oxygen to the tissues, the tissues turn bluish in colour.

Estelle Schneider I’m a Christian, and pro-life. It’s horrible what happens to fetuses in abortions and I can’t support it. But this life lost can be used to save countless more in the future. Tragedy can be used to create something amazing. It doesn’t mean that we want tragedy to happen, but that we take a horrible situation and turn it around. In order to save us from our sins, Jesus went through some terrible things. Judas’ betrayal, for example, was a horrible thing, yet Jesus’ arrest was used to bring Him glory and salvation for us. Horrible things happen, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from it to make sure things like that don’t happen again. This fetus has probably saved many lives, and there’s nothing to prove that it’s connected to abortion or Roe v Wade. I understand where you are coming from, life is precious and God wants us to protect it. I firmly believe that. But learning from loves lost is not disregarding God’s creation, if anything, it is respecting it. Yes, there have been many abuses of science and human study, but this is not one of those cases. By learning about the human body, regardless of the stage of life, can help save many more lives. Isn’t this honoring God far more? We aren’t killing babies for the purpose of study (even if the bodies are later used, it isn’t the same as intentionally killing for that reason), just using what already happened. If I die of something we don’t understand, I would want my body to be studied so we can prevent or help others in the same situation. I truly believe this honors God’s heart. It is sick and horrible that many don’t respect life in the womb, but the people studying this fetus’ body are learning about it so they can save more fetuses, so they can grow and live a full life. I think we can both agree that saving lives is a wonderful thing. I would love to hear your thoughts. God bless :)

I noticed that a lot of comments have serious objections to calling the baby a fetus. Fetus is the correct medical term for a baby of that gestational age. Before that, it is an embryo. After that (when it is born), it is a neonate. Just like a leg bone is a femur. It isn't an insult to the leg to call the bone a femur; neither is it an insult to the unborn child to call it a fetus.

Having just watched this video, I feel that I need to tell you my story. I was born 50yrs ago. My mother went into early labour when she was 32 weeks pregnant, and she and my father were duly afraid as the doctor had been concerned that he could hear only one heartbeat but feel two heads. My mum gave birth to me, I was 8weeks and 2days early. My birth was traumatic, but more was to follow. A few minutes after me my twin was delivered stillborn. He was my brother and it was estimated that he had died at around 26weeks and was perfect. The story goes that the midwife and doctor who attended our birth asked our parents if they would be willing to donate my brother to our local university. Which they did. Until now I have been unable to picture my brother. It's unlikely that you have him there with you, but maybe he had a twin who misses him just as much as I miss mine. Thank you.

The fact that he never even got to truly open his eyes and see the world, yet he’s helped to teach and fascinate so many people! It’s so sad to know that he never got to truly see how many people he’s helped. Fly high little angel. Edit: … I swear I’m not dumb lol, I’m just a bad typer. Anyways changed angle to angel. With all that aside though, rest easy little one Edit: btw read the replies if you want a good laugh

We don't usually get to see all the people we affect, for better or for worse. This as a perfect example of how we should always be mindful, as our existence has an affect on others whether we know it or not.

There are a lot of reasons it could be. I lost a healthy, beautiful boy about this child's gestation 22 years ago. I just . . . lost him. The cervix opened and out he came. A year later, I had some imaging done of my uterus and it was totally partitioned into 2 cavities, and it was then we knew why our boy died--he had just run out of room. Surgery that cut the partition (septum) in two allowed me to give birth at term, and that baby is now 19.

The fetus looks very similar to my youngest, who was born at 28+5. She was 2lb 5oz 17in (she was long). I had PPROM at 25+1 and she was delivered via emergency cesarean due to me becoming septic. Fortunately, they got her out before the infection got to her. Since I was in the hospital from 25+1 weeks, up until delivery at 28+5, they were able to prepare her as much as possible for birth, while she was still in the womb. Her NICU stay was only 43 days and, other than a scar or two, from a spinal tap and IV’s being put in her delicate skin, she’s perfectly normal and healthy. She’s now in the 3rd grade.

More like the early '70s. The fetus was used to teach students for 40 years 8 years ago. So this child has been teaching for about 48 years. Almost as old as my parents!
