just a couple of items to clean up before I go, as an elder pop diva (this is literally so minute don't come for me): Katy Perry wasn't one of the biggest artists of the 2000's. She had her first big hit in 2008/2009 but didn't really launch into major stardom until the 2010's. Calling her contemporary's with Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez is off, they were falling off before Katy Perry took rise.

To be unbiased on this whole situation, I don’t want to believe the Dr. Luke rumor is true until it is officially confirmed (it would be kind of weird and STUPID of Katy to go back with Dr. Luke after 10 whole years of ditching him, and saying she “left the nest” after ditching him), and the Katycats shouldn’t bash Kesha and defend Dr. Luke, since SA is a VERY sensitive topic and Kesha was a victim of it. This whole thing is messy and confusing. If Katy wants to save her image, which is not too late now, she definitely needs speak a word about Dr. Luke.

I think she just makes bad choices. She should try to reach the late 20s and 30s age group. Instead of growing with her fanbase, she has chosen to make her music for a younger generation, which there’s nothing wrong with that but there’s a bigger disconnect someone her age trying to appeal to teenagers.
@zombieedrea
3 ай бұрын
I'm in my early 30's and I absolutely do not fuck with her lmao. I also wouldn't say she's deliberately trying to target teenagers. She posted on tik tok, sure, but at this point most celebs and musicians, especially ones as big as Katy have it because it's simply good marketing. I'll go out on a limb here and say that Katy *is* trying to appeal to a wide variety of ages. She still has older diehard fans that will support anything she puts out (and younger ones too). But if it turns out this single is in fact produced by Dr. Luke, she's just going to flop again. Especially since the single is called Woman's World. I know it was originally Ava Max's song, and this is very common in the pop industry, but the second she saw Dr. Luke's name attached to it, she should've tried a different approach. You cannot work with a producer as hated as him, on what's supposed to be a female empowerment song, and not expect to get major backflash. It's just so fucking *stupid* more than anything. Either way though, I've literally disliked her since I Kissed A Girl. She has never seemed like a real, authentic person to me. 🤷♀
@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ
3 ай бұрын
I feel like she doesn't have a vision of what she wants to do. She doesn't feel like Melanie Martinez or Charlie XCX or Lorde, who all feel like they have something to say, to me at least. I was going through Katy's discography because my Uncle was a huge fan of her in 2008-2009 and so, I have fond memories of that time. So I only ended up liking like 5 songs in total. I kind of feel like she... I don't know, was manufactured by like 30 producers and she achieved it. What I'm trying to say is that it feels like she doesn't have an overall vibe or plan, so to speak. Her career is weird for me because it seems she was this massive giant for so long, when it was only a short period of time. I feel she's more of a performer than an authoress.

In the Era of TikTok, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Taylor-mania...I also do not know what's the role of Katy Perry in the pop game anymore...I mean, at the beginning of her career she had artistic vision and she seems to have lost it for some reason...idk what happened to her, she tried to replicate her successful formula over and over again to the point that it got tired and monotonous. The campy silly bubblegum-cartoonish aesthetic was good for a while, but she hasn't been able to detach from it...just take a look at her recent Vegas gig....
@nxtlvlzeph
3 ай бұрын
it’s easy - she has no role, and is just desperate for another hit..but I don’t think it will work out the way she thinks it will. the reason she flopped wasn’t because she stopped working with dr luke, it was because she never built up a strong core audience outside of the gp, and tried to go against what made her appealing as a popstar to begin with on witness (plus, all of the controversies that ensued in that era). I don’t think she’s learned much since. now she doesn’t even understand the audience she’s trying to appeal to, if she did she would know that working with dr luke is a big NO-GO for gays with morals. plus, trying to copy charli’s style right as she’s having a moment rn is just a bad move, and people WILL see through it. it’s all very manufactured and she doesn’t understand that authenticity is what sells in this day and age. and I don’t think the rehashed self-empowerment anthem is gonna work for her either, she’s literally been doing that same bit to varying degrees since Firework. she needs to go back to the drawing board imo

I still remember getting bullied by Stan Twitter in 2013-15 for liking Gaga, Katy, and Taylor all at once, and people had the nerve to say I must choose one because they simply said liking all three was not allowed. So this whole Katy, Kesha, Ava thing is giving childish behavior and conspiracy to the point where the fact that someone thought it’d be funny to edit an unreliable source, and people suddenly believe it as it’s a bible. Honestly she’s just not a very talented or diverse artist. She was very much a product of her era, even the electro pop and campiness of her peak eras was a rip off of lady gaga as all the big pop stars were doing at the time with their electronic dance songs and over the top fashion. She was always a singles artist so she never really cultivated a big die hard cult following. someone like Gaga who almost got Katy perrified in 2014, was able to make a comeback based off her talent (pianist, actress, multi-genre classically trained singer, performer) whereas Katy just doesn’t have the range or depth of talent to do the same I think

I feel like this generation hasn't bring it in yet... Olivia and Sabrina are the best of this generation but there is a part of me that still can't connect fully with their music the way I did back then... On the other hand, Charli XCX's been active since 2008/2009 so I wouldn't include her with the new generation, she is the one who is killing it and her new album is giving a bit of that vibe of the club era from early 2010s... I have to be honest that I also did not enjoy that much Katy Perry's Witness Era, then Smile era came and the only song that I feel that was very underrated and should have been bigger was "Never Really Over", it was one of the songs I listened the most in 2019 but I felt like the promotion for this song may have not been that good and that's why it wasn't bigger... I am excited about Katy's new music but I can't deny that I also have a little bit of bias and feel like I don't want to get my expectations up too much... Taylor Swift already let me down this year for the first time, Ariana's music was good but nothing compared to her previous albums, I have listened a few bits of Beyonce's album but it doesn't draw my attention maybe because it is related to country music which I am not that big fan of...

Hi i don't wanna be rude but at the beginning of the video when you say "early 2000's" you mean early 2010's right? cause I feel like that was katy's peak and also the peak of dumb loud pop (coincidence? lol)

the part about katy perry’s pop sound being more primed for success than ever is so true, I mean espresso is basically an early 2010s katy perry song 😭 but it’s yet to be seen if she’ll actually follow through with that sound, at least judging by the snippet she shared it just seems like she’s doing the 80 synthpop revival trend like every other pop star in the planet. I just think she’s trying to manufacture this trendy “pop girl” image whilst completely misunderstanding her original appeal, the audience she’s trying to target, and the reason her career flopped in the first place. I don’t really think she’s learned much at all from Witness and is just desperate to cling to any sort of success atp, which is why she’s working with *HIM* again on an Ava Max reject. coupled with the fact that she’s rehashing the same old self-empowerment songs she’s been singing since Firework, I just don’t think she has ANYTHING unique or interesting to contribute to the pop canon anymore, I mean she’s currently copying Charli’s whole look right when she’s having a moment, which I think people are seeing through. I just don’t see this working for her AT ALL, and she might be in for a rude awakening.

I loved witness. And after the 2016 election even therapists needed therapists.Katy campaigned for Hillary just like Beyoncé and Jay z. Unlike another artist we won’t mention but this artist’s fans did escalate a back up dancer misunderstanding. That definitely hurt Katy’s witness premier. Also Katy sang firework at Biden’s inauguration. As for your lack for a better parallel “Come to Jesus moment?” She went from strict Christian upbringing that she talked about on her witness live tour dinner where she talked with dita von teese, Van jones, Caitlyn Jenner, Sia and my personal favorite civil & human rights comedian activist, Amanda Seales. Katy showed energy recovery via her transcendental meditation practice live. Katy is a spiritual guru in her own right. Thus why she unmasked and tried to cleanse her spirit from the patriarchal backlash of 2016 and Barack Obama’s 2012 to 2016 reelection. The GOP activated the Christian right, thus the fall of roe and the rise of the new America (book recommendation). Van Jones called it a “black lash.”Also, her baby daddy Orlando Bloom is spiritual. Even practicing Buddhist mantras on his extreme death defying show To The Edge. Katy also became a mom after witness. And seriously smile says it all about how challenging pregnancy and early no sleep every two hour wake up intervals to keep your child fed and safe. The “fourth-trimester is not for talked about enough. That much. Lack of sleep cause brain damage but neuroplasticity allows to heal eventually. I am so happy for Katy’s success! Her last album was my oxygen surviving having to push up my own daisies and needing to cry about it later. Orcas are matriarchal and being a new mother is a lot like being an orca at Sea World or solitary confinement under house arrest. Katy and I are close in age and when we grew up we were told we were going “through a phase” national coming out day came with aol dial up and beeper codes like 143 “I love you.” Elder millennials are the jumanji pioneers of teen tech. We need this Katy Perry 143 new album win after the devastating realization that is watching Exterminate all the Brutes on MAX, Noam Chomsky’s Requiem for the American Dream streaming on prime, Jimmy Carter’s book on Palestine available on Audible and Clash of the civilizations on the new world order also available on Audible. Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong communicated what the vibe is regarding who is on the ballot for the 2024 election. We need this Katy Perry pop album to help us go Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman Les miserable and fight on. Women are pivotal in this election and our daughters are hope for democracy for all is on the line. “cfr org women voters pivotal role electing next us president” “Determining the outcome of the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Women comprise the largest group of registered voters, and they tend to turn out at high levels to vote, as 68.4 percent of them did in the 2020 election. The question is, where will women throw their weight? While former President Donald Trump is leading in many polls, the latest Quinnipiac poll shows President Joe Biden in a dead heat with Trump. In that poll, Biden captured 58 percent of the women’s vote, a five-point gain over the last Quinnipiac poll in December. Trump’s support from women declined by five points to 36 percent. That puts Biden ahead of his 2020 performance when he won 55 percent of the women’s vote, compared to 44 percent of women who voted for Trump. Black and Hispanic women voters provided Biden his winning edge in 2020, as 90 and 69 percent those blocs respectively voted for him. In contrast, Trump still retains the loyalty of a majority of white women, who form the largest single bloc of the electorate at 40 percent, and the largest subgroup of women voters.” Linda Robinson

if she just focused on making a more club pop inspired sound and worked with different producers/writers, people would eat up this comeback cause it's the first time she's getting attention in a long time, she just messed everything up with the generic dr luck production. in charli's new album brat, the track talk talk is so katy perry coded i wish she released something like this in 2024

I sadly have to listen to a lot of Dr. Luke hits... because I adore Kesha and her early stuff is all by him 😭 though honestly, I feel like the music industry is filled with enough awful people that I don't have it in me to start singling them all out. I would prefer artists not to work with Luke but if he makes someone a good song... Led Zeppelin and their manager kidnapped a 13 year old girl one time man there are so many awful people in music it would break your head in if you wanted to keep up with all of it.

I like how everyone started to like her again since 2015 and now everyone is shitting on her?? I get her working with Dr Luke isn't a good idea but hasn't everyone else worked with him. Kim Petras, Doja Cat and others?? Have they been 'called out'. I don't think so. Also if Katy just did a new version of Teenage Dream, which is what everyone wanted, people would still hate on her. And many of the Music Publications have just been hopping on the Katy hate train. Who cares what her music is just let her have a chance of success. It's been 11 years and everyone decided to turn on her because she talked about her mental health and struggles. I know not everyone might like Witness and Smile but they are still good. She is also a mother. I don't see anyone else out here having a child, mental problems, judging on American Idol, bringing out new music and getting hated on AGAIN.

@@sebastiangeorge6394Probably because of 2014's Artpop vs Prism war. Personally I'd say that Gaga is much more of an icon and, more well liked and respected and overall a better artist. Her behaviour also aged better as she was out there being pro LGBT in a time where it was much less mainstream whilst Katy sang about how kissing girls "its not what good girls do" and " you're so gay and you don't even like boys"

@@koelkastridder3388 I personally really LOVE Katy Perry AND Lady Gaga. I always thought they should collab because Gaga is great at collab tracks (ex. Telephone, Rain on Me, Do What You Want with Xtina….we don’t mention “he who shall not be named” here). I wish Katy still had it TBH….I think I might have linked them more because of how HUGE they both were at the same time. Media is always going to do what media does but I don’t buy in. They are BOTH great in their own ways.
