My first phone as a kid was the Coca-Cola A1018s. At the time it was an extremely affordable way to get a phone, and collecting the tokens only took 2-3 days at school from discarded bottles. It was not jus the startup logo, but also there was a special ringtone it had too.

I remember modding my Sagem mobile phone with an RS232 cable in the year 2000. I was able to add a lot of extra functions, for example a screensaver. It was also usable as a 9600 bit dial-up connection with the RS232 cable. I got one of the Coca Cola cases for it a year later, it took an hour to swap the case.

I also have a similar Toshiba laptop I randomly found at flea market and bought because it was too pretty and slim. It had windows XP installed on it but it wasn't activated so only thing I could do was enter in safe mode and run another XP setup from there since there were no other way to boot into a setup because it only had one USB port on board and it couldn't boot from it. I am missing a charger so I used female jumpers since they fit if you remove one of theirs plastic cover around the pin. The current draw sometimes makes the cables get too hot though. I remember using a random 12V LED power supply with the tuning pot turned all the way up to get a voltage close to 15V. Do you perhaps know what type of connector is used there so I can make a proper solution. I also got a ethernet cart and even a wifi cart and tried connecting to Internet. It was problematic since no browsers were available. The lack of modern instructions sets on the CPU limited it even further, more than using 32 bit XP. Wifi did not work for me since it was probably too outdated so security protocol didn't let me connect. It was fun to mess with it. It run AoEII like a champ. Couldn't get any other games on it though.

just that using usb to ttl rs232 adapters against pretty much anything brings up the problem that when using a normal max232 or 'something simular' the power to that ic goes out at the same time the power to the rest of the target system goes out. the max232 itself is usually just fine with input levels higher than vcc as that is what it does anyway. all day long :P -however- the uart or microcontroller -behind- it, can usually not handle a 5v signal while vcc is 0 (as it's turned off ;) connecting rs232 stuff together directly over ttl is therefore usually not such a bright idea :P (also it won't handle potential differences that well that way ;) stuff that does do that nontheless usually has all kinds of external circuitry (atari sio bus (but that's also because it's some point to multipoint setup, etc)

@@big0bad0brad the problem is not the current. (on most uarts and microcontrollers and other shift registeers). the problem is that the -voltage- may be maximum 0.3v above vcc. if the system is off, and an -external- ttl rs232 source provides a positive voltage. vcc is 0. and this voltage therefore is significantly higher than 0.3v above vcc. it's not just potentially causing the system to 'kinda power up' (more like likely stay in an even worse brown out condition ;) but it's basically just breaking the input pin.

I ask people for their junk items that they are throwing out. Because they are usually over 5 years old and nobody wants them. Then I put in in my storage room for 10 to 15 , or even 20 years and they becomes like gold :)

@@JanusCycle Ok, But what language is the flash file? english, spanish or polish? And where can you buy from a data cable that goes from the connector to serial port?
@JanusCycle
3 жыл бұрын
@@ivangonzalez8765 The firmware has German(DE) English(EN) Hungarian(HU) Polish(PL) Romanian(RO) Slovakian(SK) Czech(CS). Those connectors are very hard to get. If you can find an old data cable for that range of Ericsson you can get the connector. Some people have been able to build them using pogo pins.

@@JanusCycle I mean, someone is going to reverse-engineer all this sooner or later. But what's the point of keeping 20-year-old flashing protocols in secret and vendorlocked to Faildows-only tools, I don't understand.
