JAMES HALSE founded his eponymous village in the early 1830s, building 90 homes for his mine workers to create one of the earliest planned settlements in England. All people had to do to keep their house was to vote for him in elections.
In 1904 someone wrote this new lyric for the national anthem, which was sung by Halsetownians at Mock Mayor ceremonies.
