Such an amazing project. Such disheartening comments. Brits always moan. Ridiculous that these people prove that point.

closed canopy (climax) forest through rows of tree plantations is NOT a biodiverse forest ecosystem

so true. today's approach differs from that of 25 years ago, or so we may hope.

But it is actually not closed canopy just because it is in a row, there is more space perhaps in between the lines of trees than canopies of the trees in one line and as time goes on the forest will grow any which way it pleases..

I see this... I see the website. ..then you go on Google Maps and it just simply doesn't exist. There are tiny patches of woods here and there, but 200 square miles? Show me drone shots. Show me where this mythical forest is?! It doesn't exit!! Also, planting trees in straight lines is terrible. New growth woodland needs to be planted in groves to simulate natural woodland and thereby properly serve as habitat for wild animals. I'm only so critical because I wish the UK had massive reforesting ongoing and all I see are lip-service projects like this that care more about commercial timber and farmer interests, and glamping/activity centre revenue than actual rewilding.

Daz you don't need dog bins in the area, you just hang your little black bags off the trees they planted like 90% of the locals

Dear Christopher Hughes, biodegradable waste bags do not contribute properly to the complex regeneration process of forests. Natural waste does the job with efficiency. Here I repeat what I said to 'Waz Daz': dogs should poop in the woods, among trees, and their masters should scatter about that precious gift with some chunk of stick or a stone. Our trees will be very pleased and thankful for that. Actually even your 'business' would be heartily welcome. Nature likes natural things when given in moderation.

Yes. Rather than the necessary winding down of coal mines Communist Scargill started a war against a democratically elected government, held the country to ransom, and closed down the industry far quicker. He picked a fight with the wrong person.

@@nntflow7058 My Scottish friend said she hated Ms Thatcher for lots of things but most unforgivable for her was that she ended free milk for school kids (she had a young daughter at school and was quite poor so that milk was important to her)....
