Saturday 1st of June 1991, its etched in my memory ... coming from/living in Liverpool it was great to pick up the coach at The Cunard Building at the Pier Head (years later I had an office there, but not now) instead of getting over to Birkenhead. The night before all my blues/reds mates were wishing me well/patting me on the back (looking down on me/us) I just thought "We Have To Do It." I could not enjoy the game as we had so much on it ... the last time (then) we appeared in the 2nd Division was in the late 1930s. From the start to the finish I was shaking and all I had in my head was "We Have To Win, We Have Get There" remember we lost to Notts County 2-0 the previous year, I was Heart Broken. Some things to remember: Chris Malkin's disallowed goal!, his diving header against the crossbar in the 2nd half, Eric Nixon's save from J. Derby, P Browns shot through our defense in the 90th minute, and ... and Our Goal from the left flank ... Higgins -Thomas - Morrisey and Brannon Shoots ... the save come's back out To Chris Malkin who riffles in into the bottom left side of the net running back to our bench punching the air! I was jumping and shouting without any energy, it was dream-like! Those 20 odd minutes of counting down was torturous with Jim Harvey not knowing what to do when he had a Great Opportunity to score, he blew it high and wide, and Steve Cooper heading off the line in Defense! ... When the final whistle went I am not ashamed to say that I started to cry due to the stress and worry of the match (and what we went through in 82 and 87) the elation got the better of me!. We stayed in the second tier of The Football Pyramid for Nine Years, That Put Us On The FOOTBALL Map we lost our focus in 2000/01 to cup giant killing acts and got Relegated ( very similar now) each year I look back to that 26 year old scouser who took a lot of stick (I still do!) and carried on supporting Tranmere through The Good Times and The Bad!. Tranmere Till I Die!.

That was a hell of a team, some very young players, sadly I missed this game I was down for the game the previous week, but the trip down from Aberdeen again wasn't possible, had to wait until 2018 to see a playoff final victory, lesson learned.

We were well the better team and though I wouldn't wish injury on anyone , when Malkin came on for big Jim they couldn't handle him
