That's a great question... I do plan on adding some more soon. I would watch coachingvolleyball.substack.com, where I've been writing about coaching and volleyball-related stuff.

Can someone tell me why we aren't calling the four backcourt zones (from left to right) A B C and D? When did this knowledge get tossed? It gets very confusing when teams are calling a 51 set, an A (which is left side backcourt) and a 93 a C (which is the right side of a PIPE (not bic) back row attack. Also, please bring back the two digit set nomenclature. What I'm seeing now as far as set calls, looks like it was designed for a Kindergarten or first grade class. If not, I am sorry for assuming we were all adults here that can easily process two digit numbers.

Where are you based, @MichaelPullins? The back row sets for my teams are always A, B, Pipe/Bic, C, and D (A being the left side, pipe/BIC the middle back row, and D the right side back row)... I know in Italy they have a wildly different set of codes and names for the different sets, but I agree, my simple brain works best with 14 for a set in zone 1, 4 feet high, 51 for a set in zone 5, one foot high, and so on...

@@volleyballhub5414 I am based out of Nashville, TN. I played my club vball at Middle Tennesse State University and currently work (but as a network engineer) at Lipscomb University. I've talked to the girls vball coach here about possibly starting a club mens team for the students in the spring.

@@volleyballhub5414 I did most of my playing in the 90s but have kept up with it since. I see a lot of stuff that we were taught/coached, not being taught anymore. I see too many OHs with an outside in approach almost parallel to the net, and then swings angle into a double block, blocking angle, when they have two feet of open line, and when they do hit line it's a low-power cross body arm swing (bad form). I see too many blocks floating laterally and blockers trying to be 'football goal uprights' hoping the hitter will hit a field goal. I see (and across the board) non-optimal serve reception. I'd love to see more players look at the game from a more cerebral standpoint....much like Peyton Manning with football and Larry Bird with basketball. Their respective sport I.Q.s were off the charts.
