For this price I still prefer an HX Stomp, If I want to play captures I prefer ToneX One, I think anyone who has real amps to capture has also the money to spend on the better capture units and not this crippled captures version, most people who want an affordable pedal to play captures live do NOT need the capture feature, NeuralDSP could have released a cheaper version that does not include the ability to capture and instead create a 3 switch affordable pedal that can only load captures plus this FX section, in that way they'd have improved on the ToneX One

I see a lot of people complaining about the lack of effects on here but isn't the whole point of the Cortex over an HX stomp the amp capture capabilities? A small, simple, affordable box you can trow on your pedalboard to basically deliver sounds from multiple amps---amp sounds that eclipse anything Line 6 has in its programming. Isn't that the whole point here? It makes this a great option for those who are ok running a few pedals into the front of the input jack.

To me it seems like the main selling points for me over say a Tonex is 1 Name Recognition(i love the nerual Plugins) 2 the app ( seems way more convenient than having to plug a tonex into your laptop) and the added reverb, delay, transpose, and chorus fx. Personally thats not enough for me to switch (atleast not without trying it out in person through a sound system). If they wouldve added the ability to add and edit a drive pedal and run stereo amps that wouldve been a huge upgrade over the tonex especially at the price point but id imagine the tech to do that would drastically increase the price
@ThadBrown

For what it does, I'd probably go for the tonex mini or micro or whatever it is? Maybe N-DSP does the capturing better, that's definitely possible, but with the artist presets available for the tonex stuff even if you have to pay a few bucks for those packs, you're getting pretty well curated, carefully done captures. I kind of just went the opposite direction and sold my Walrus ACS-1 (which is a great, great little box, don't get me wrong) + a few dirt pedals and bought a Friedman IR-d. The idea being to streamline a little, use my HX Stomp for f/x and some modeling (and recording of course), but have a single knob/single function setup for the 'amp' itself. Like a lot of people I go back and forth on these things. One day I love my VST synths and the endless power they have, the next I want a Prophet or a Waldorf Q because each has a bunch of knobs you can just grab and go. We'll see how long this 'simplify' thing lasts, but I'll still have my Stomp if I want to spend hours tweaking the sag parameters on amps I'll never be able to afford . . . .

Would have bought this if it had had an effects loop, or at least some way to get the drop-tuned input signal routed to an output for parallel use in a vocal harmony pedal (for correct harmonies given the key being played in). Capture is a snapshot of an actual amp. It's plugged in to the amp and samples it. You then can't change the sound you get out of it by much but by all accounts sounds pretty accurate to the recorded sound of that amp. Modelling is where you try to recreate the actual amp digitally, either by modelling the individual components and circuit in a computer simulation, or some other algorithm. This should then let you adjust all the settings like you would be able to on the actual amp. How accurate it sounds and feels come down to the quality of the modelling

The HX stomp just doesn’t sound high end. Yeah it has more features but I care about audio quality and Line6 has never cut it. I don’t need modeling. I have all my captures dialed in and only need a few effects to get the job done. Plus the library of effects make getting new sounds easy. I bought this because it simply sounds better than any other modelers that are thin and cheap sounding.

It's overpriced and makes the HX Stomp look Handsom. This should be a $200 unit.

Using my samsung ipad should be no problem as far as a screen is and are concerned... Do you really think this is worth five hundred dollars...def not as far as i want a stom box and amp emulator both to use live...

How’s that latency working out on the Hotone?🤨

@@pizzaisgood4877 - I take XLR direct from the Stage II into Pro Tools and there is very little latency to speak of that has any impact on my playing.

@@marcinpierechod3838 - I have a board of beautiful analog pedals and so I don't need effects. I'm not inspired by the amp sounds of the Stage II.

We all know you're not an NDSP fan. Surprised you are reviewing it. But, we trust your opinion so glad you are. Cute kid. Who was the father :) hehe

This is an attempt by neural to compete with Tonex and honestly, its just not as good as the Tonex.
