Just want to say thank you for this video. I'm a therapist at a treatment center and I teach trauma and addiction class. I've had a hard time finding videos that speak to the effects of trauma and their influence on addiction in a way that is thorough and understandable for a general population. I so appreciate this! We only got through the first 20 mins cause we had so much to dialogue about. Thank you

Thanks for this Jamie March s work is an interesting counter conversation to this, essentially arguing that 12 step work groups need to become 'trauma informed'....issues such as Step 4....needs to be memoriy work....but slowly... because of flooding The issue of groups, one size fits all... All female groups.... Thanks again for all the information and education

Alternative serenity prayer: May I have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I am sober thanks to the 12 steps, but notice how only alcoholics get the 12 steps so I don't know if I am brainwashed I am critical about that it works because it works. That, also includes psychiatry in a way.

I have said to my therapist several times that I was oddly/ironically jealous of my siblings who were addicts, as they had treatment centers, at least 30 local twelve step meetings, and a common 12-step language to share with each other. Their common "12 step" bond becomes my isolation.

Have you sought a Codependents Anonymous group? Or AlAnon?

My sister is a really sick alcoholic and we've had years of hell, all our love and energies have gone to her, I've had major anxiety for 6 months and I joined Al anon and an online therapy support group as I can't afford therapy, worth a try maybe

Look for Al-Anon meetings. 12 steps for those involved with addicts.
