@@Mhinqa What would a $15 minimum wage do, exactly? How would all businesses, big and small, respond to such an increase? They would have to pay _all_ employees not just those already making minimum, more. Then they would have to increase the cost of all items they sell to compensate for the wage increases. While big businesses can support the loss in profit until things stabilize, small ones cannot and has already been shown time and time again. Small businesses will shutter their doors, big businesses will move in and take over giving them even more power, and overall unemployment will increase. And then the next generation will call for yet another increase to minimum wage with the same results, all the while more money is being printed to deal with this thus devaluing the dollar further and further. I don't know about you but I don't want to have to bring a wheelbarrow to Walmart full of money to buy a loaf of bread.
@thesaltedlamp3444
3 жыл бұрын
@@Mhinqa First of all, thanks for actually listing all the policies and not defaulting to personal attacks. Let's keep it that way! :) Anyway, let's dive into those policies. Btw, I'm taking you at your word, so hopefully you're being honest.: Covid-19 - Almost all of that sounds great! The mask mandate is not good though, as that should be left up to the states. Healthcare - Key word here is "option"; people must be able to choose between the federal and private healthcare plans. Obamacare penalized people for not having insurance, i.e. the Individual Mandate. If Biden does anything like this, it's highly disagreeable. Also, private healthcare must be allowed to spread and compete, just as a principle of the free market, while the federal gov. prevents any monopolies, including a monopoly by the gov. itself. Tax - This is bad, in my opinion. A flat tax is the only fair system of individual taxes, so raising taxes just because someone is rich is unfair, and we should strive to be fair. Of course, we should be trying to make it easier for hard workers and intelligent people to earn their way up, but a system of progressive taxes is not the way to do this, as this only enforces dislike/hatred of certain people and allows for discrimination. Taxes on businesses, on the other hand, are a different matter, and I'm all ears for any solutions which prevent monopolies, allow small and large business success, and keep companies in America, while keeping our economy as free and uninterfered as possible. Paris Climate Agreement - This is meaningless, and even a bad idea. America, and most other countries on the whole are doing a pretty good job regarding the environment. Could do better, of course, but for now rhe main offenders by far are China, India, and large, multinational companies. Joining the Paris Agreement will do nothing when China has such strong influence on the United Nations, and pouring American money into an Agreement which has no strength for enforcement is a bad, bad idea. The UN as a whole can't quite do this, as China doesn't listen to much the UN says regarding anything, nevermind the Paris Agreement. We need to work together and force China to stop it's immense polution, along with it's other human rights violations, but a toothless UN Agreement won't do it. I have more faith that India will try to get better though, given that it's a democracy that tends to follow the West's lead. It'll take time though, given that India isn't as developed as America and Europe. Fracking - Given that Biden has flipped his statements on fracking several times, I don't really believe what he says about it. We'll just have to wait and see, if he is elected. Green energy - I'm all for investment in green energy, because I do believe that renewable energy lies squarely on the path to the future. Frankly, though I need to see how Biden will pay $2 tril. That's too large of a number to just throw out, and I haven't seen any hints of his budget. Also, we can't just stop using nonrenewable energies, and I haven't heard Biden say anything at all about how he plans to transition, i.e. help all of those workers, those businesses, and the economy, which will certainly tank if we just suddenly stop using fossil fuels. Roe v. Wade - I don't want it to be repealed, but it must be known that Biden's opinion on this issue doesn't matter in the least. This is a Supreme Court issue, and the most I see Biden being able to do about this is appoint one Justice, given that most of them are so young, but one Justice won't change much. LGBT Protections - Good! This is very good. Immigration - Also good, as long as this doesn't mean that Biden would make *illegal* immigration easier. We seriously need a better immigration system, but until then, illegal immigrants simply have to wait. It's unfortunate to keep potential asylum seekers waiting, but if the law is not followed, what's the point in having one? So, we need a President who will work on moving legal immigration forward, while keeping illegal immigration at a minimum. If Biden agrees to do this, then wonderful! Unionization - I don't know enough about the pros of modern unionization to support this, but of course, I'm open to hearing its goodness, so I won't denounce this opinion yet. While historically unions have been great, I've only seen bad outcomes from modern unions. Just my experience! $15 MW - Terrible idea, just based off of the fact that $15 in California means something quite different from $15 in Idaho. Setting a national MW is a great example of negative federal oversight. Best idea, in my opinion, is to let states set their own MWs. This would allow citizens far, far more influence in a decision such as this, which significantly impacts so many people. Making MW national removes too much necessary nuance between states. -------------------- Just my thoughts on Election Day, while we all wait for the results! May the best man win! lol

I think it's reality that has moved closer to satire 🤷 maybe that's a distinction without a difference, but I'm convinced that it is reality (or at least those they construct our perception of it) that has actively put on the pants of satire because it knew we had become tolerant enough to accept it without resistance. 🤦 This is the darkest (and dumbest) timeline.
