Accuracy is not the problem here. The fact that a one-of-a-kind building is not to be renewed but restored is rather. Meaning that it should not be taken so lightly that the government lets random artist suggest ideas about how it should look like. It takes time and money, furthermore it ruines the quality of the restoration itself. There is a long neverending list of suggestions about designs of Notre Dame. All of which are ridiculous garbage and has nothing to do wtih the original architecture.

I was in Paris in 1976 and visited Notre Dame. The beautiful front stain glass window was impressive. It struck me that once inside, everything seemed so dark, so it was difficult to see much detail of the interior. I seem to remember hearing hymns being sung. When they showed the fire I shed tears for the loss and uncertain future of the iconic church that belonged to the world. So glad to see the restoration coming to its final stages. With all that has been done, Notre Dame should be enjoyed for generations to come.

I was lucky to be able to visit the Cathedral in about 2015. They had a new and improved lighting system, the interior had been cleaned, and looked absolutely magnificent. The choirs and organs were awesome! The current predictions for re-opening are for later in 2024, a few months later then what was mentioned in the video. PS It was pretty dark inside there, before the new lights were installed.

It never ceases to amaze me how the great cathedrals like Notre Dame (and others throughout Europe) were so well constructed with the technology that was available at the time. Kudos to those great architects and laborers who, knowing they would not live to see the completion of their work, gave their best efforts to build such great and wonderful edifices!

So glad to hear that the restoration efforts of Notre Dame are almost complete. The grand structures left by our ancestors, whether religious or secular, are our most precious inheritance. They provide us with not only a link to our past but show us the grit, hard work and determination of those who built them. We have inherited the courage, determination and ability to dream of our ancestors. These irreplaceable buildings are a physical testament to humanities continuous drive to achieve and excel.

As a visitor to Notre Dame, and Paris, and a good part of Europe in general in 1967, I was Nine Years old, and with my Grandmother, a REAL World Traveler, I can say that I was in tears when I saw the images of Our Lady on fire. I think it is tragic that the French are repeating the mistakes of the original builders by reconstructing the original wooden building and setting up yet another eventual fire. What an expensive, backward looking waste of time, money and effort.

On the last day I had a chance to go to Notre Dame, and it was totally a redeeming experience. The place is huge and the public space around it was set up very well. From the outside, everything still looks pretty unfinished. We also asked a few people in Paris. Few believe that the cathedral will be finished in 2024, but many hope that it will at least be restored from the outside to such an extent that the original church will be recognizable. The last information found on newspaper « The reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral would be on track to allow its reopening to the public at the end of 2024, less than six years after the fire which ravaged its roof, those responsible for the work assured Monday. The deadline for reopening to visitors and the faithful, set for December 2024, was set by President Emmanuel Macron just after the fire in April 2019. Unfortunately, it will not be quite ready for the Paris Olympics, which will take place in July and August 2024. “My job is to be ready to open this cathedral in 2024 - and we will,” says Army General Jean-Louis Georgelin, the army general in charge of the reconstruction project. “We fight for this every day and we are on the right track.” Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak clarified that although the cathedral will be open to the public, this "does not mean that all renovation work will be completed." She added that there will be "further renovation work in 2025" »

I remember one of the early submissions for the redesign was a glass roof, which looked modern and that kind of thing worked for the Reichstag Building, but the designer completely forgot that the wooden roof covers over stone vaulting, and it's impossible to remove those vaulting without the walls caving inwards, a design by someone who had no clue how the actual building is constructed. Your news article about destroying Norte Dame is Worcester, MA. Was that an intentional fake or a mistake in editing?

What a grim day. A piece in all of us died that day when we saw smoke pouring out of the roof

I don't think they should rebuild the spire, it's such a new addition to the building and has always looked out of place.

There was originally a spire during medieval times, but it was smaller and got demolished in the 1700 i believe.

I remember at the time of the fire, there was many other Christian locations/artifacts being suspiciously vandalized including another church fire in France, and relics on public display, as well as cemetery displays damaged/destroyed throughout France.

is the restoration taking place according to the original canon or with the admission of changes in design and decoration?
