It’s sooo hard these days to find a decent stylist . They charge way too much and sometimes even cancel last minute ! A lot of these stylists can’t even grow natural hair all they can do is cut and do weaves . And the natural hair stylists are worse . I’ve seen $300+ for a wash n go talking about it comes with a curly consult . They will charge $100+ for a silk press and not even deep condition your hair smh and charge more if your hair has tangles. And don’t get me started on the braiders who aren’t licensed cosmetologist which is why they can’t wash condition and blow dry your hair before slapping those high tension braids in your head . It’s a mess

In Jamaica , braids , hairstyles etc look extremely good and are very cheap. Butt length knotless braid would be about US 60. Locs are more expensive though and nails are about $10 US and up depending on the length. And these look exactly like the ones done for the exorbitant amounts in the US.

I use to feel them charging more for length and thickness of hair but it makes sense because you use more product and that’s why they charge more. What I don’t get is the not wash and blow drying thing. They should automatically be included 💯 The prices are crazy. I haven’t had my hair done in almost 11 years. I have even heard they are charging $300 for a wash and go. I know people struggle with it, I don’t and don’t think it’s that difficult to be charging that much. I went to school for cosmetology and realized that in the last part it wasn’t for me and by then it was too late. They waited to the last part to tell us only 30% of people survive in that industry and that it takes I believe 2 to 3 years to make a profit when you open your salon. I was like oh hell no, they got me🤯

My first appointment includes a micro-cam scalp analysis, wash and deep condition with a steam treatment, haircut or trim, blowout and a free doobie net for $125 (-$25 that was applied from my consultation). And I can come with my hair as it is. Praying the session goes well because I could really use a stylist. I’ve tried KZitem University and I still can’t blow dry and straighten my hair 😂 Update: She’s bomb!! $60 blowout and press (plus wash and steam treatment). I go every 2 weeks now

Last week I went to this hair appointment for braids. They told me 1. They didn’t WANT to do the style 2. My hair was too long. The black community needs serious HELP. As an African since when do we pay so much for braids? Wigs installs used to be the expensive stuff. Braids was a simple things that anyone could get. Now it’s a luxury. My first resort would be to get a wig on and wait and then the same people will clown you for not taking care of your real hair “as they wish” but those stylists won’t even bother to do your hair. They want medium length max so they can get a LOT of money quickly.
