Really stoked for ya'll to watch this one! Ridin' the new jumpline Sinter and the newish trail Drawpoint.
J Girl and I spent a weekend at Cuyuna by Crosby, MN recently and stayed in a safari tent at Cuyuna Cove which was really cool.
We started off our Saturday ride with Drawpoint on our way up to the newest trails. It started to rain a bit on Drawpoint and by the time we got up to Sinter it was raining pretty hard. So we just took it easy down Sinter and scoped it out with the intensions of riding it the next day, which we did! The dirt was pretty tacky and made the trail feel a little slow but I was still able to ride it all, just with a little extra effort to clean the jumps versus if it was fast and dry.
Both Drawpoint and Sinter are rated black diamonds but only Sinter can I see that rating being warranted. Drawpoint has a couple steeper rock rolls but are straight and short. It also has some smaller tables for jumps so I just don't see why it would be anything but blue especially since Sinter is just up the road also with a black rating. I had heard some good reviews of Drawpoint but I thought it was just a lot of pedaling for some short lived downs. There was some fun stuff but I wasn't that impressed with it. I guess I'm just not a fan of feeling like the pedal wasn't worth it, ya know? There is fun stuff on the trail like I said though.
Sinter is a pretty crazy trail. The jumps are decently big but it's more that the lips are basically all just huge booters. It's like coming up to a wall on some of them and because it kicks you so much up in the air it's kinda hard to clear some of them. I think it's a pretty sick trail but at the same time it doesn't totally make sense to me with how crazy the lips are and I didn't feel like it all flowed together like a jumpline should. I was really pumping hard and pedaling a lot to clean the entire trail. And I hate pedaling on a jumpline. Like I said before, that probably has something to do with the slower riding conditions but I don't think it would all flow together still if it was fast. I had fun on the trail for sure though and it's pretty rad they have a trail like that now so I'm not trying to bash it, just saying what I actually think of it. It's also pretty weird to have a tech climb to get to a jumpline but that's probably more of a design issue. Just my thoughts.
Rock Solid built these trails along with basically everything else at Cuyuna. I think it would be nice to get some different trail flavor in there as all of their trail just seems the same to me, just in different sizes. Looks super good but doesn't always ride the best. Anyone else think the same? I would still rather just go the extra hour to Tioga, it's still a lot better riding there in my opinion.
I do want to get back up there and check out Sledgehammer still. That first day it was way to wet to ride it and just ran out of time the next day. Sledgehammer is the double black tech trail in the same zone as Sinter. Most people that I talked to about it said they walked a lot of it so I don't know if that says more about the riders or the trail haha. Maybe it is an actual double black, I'd like to find out.
