The colonial soldiers were nothing but drunken buffoons, our Maori people at the time were seasoned warriors, sharper, mentally intelligent, physically agile and fitter compared to the colonial counterparts, and were a martial people. Who were experienced with employing guerilla tactics. Let's not forget Maori were outnumbered 6 to 1, colonial soldiers fought against men, women and children defending their land. James Belich has done us a great justice.. Respect returned. Kia ora.

It will go on until every claim has been considered and decided upon. How about your clan my Scottish friend!! Does the English Govt give back what they stole from you. You really like using the term "PC" pejoratively. Perhaps think about why that might be. It, along with your dated views and morality-heavy rhetoric colours and (I'm afraid) largely discredits everything you say. At least in the comments on this video. Regardless, that is in fact not "all" it proves. The other thing it proves is that, contrary to your statement, James Belich IS a respected historian. He's a respected professor at Oxford University, the "history capital of the world." Frankly, having read through your comments on this video (and knowing the quality of KZitem comments in general) I'm not very interested in debating your point. You clearly have a chip on your shoulder about Māori and "PC" well beyond the actual issues at hand, and I'm not at all interested in hearing about it. I'm just saying: James Belich is a universally respected historian by every measurement you can reasonably use. I'm saying nothing less than that, and nothing more.

British war strategies well they pretty much had none which was to advance and fire. They encountered the ingenuity and sophistication of our Maori ancestors at war. Read up the history of the wars in Ngapuhi, Waikato, Gate Pa, Taranaki. The Britush thought with all their superior artillery and technology and their exploits around the rest of the world that the Maori natives would be a walk over.. Hardly. And there's old letters, newspaper clippings, invoices, journals archived evident to support the argument that the Maori were proving a fearsome foe to the colonials.

So now I know what raciscm feels like* Are you f...ing kidding me? Te Reo Maori is an official language of Aotearoa/New Zealand, are you saying that it is racist to have an official language of New Zealand on a New Zealand passport?? *GTFOH!* Maybe you were unaware of the change, since Te Reo Maori was made an official language with the Maori Language Act of 1987, the same year you left NZ. So maybe you should do some research before you make ignorant comments for all to see. *now I know what raciscm feels like* You don't know shit, including how to spell the word "racism" lol. My grandmother was literally beaten by her teachers for speaking Te Reo Maori in school, as were many children in the 40's. They were taught that Te Reo was a dying language and had no purpose, and the NZ Government actively discouraged the practice of Maori culture in an attempt to kill it off. *THAT'S RACISM!!*
