In 1981, it seemed obvious that the New York Giants were going to take North Carolina linebacker Lawrence Taylor in the NFL Draft. But 48 hours before the draft, Taylor wrote a telegram asking the Giants not to draft him, and players on the Giants threatened to quit the team and walk out if Taylor got drafted by the team. This is the story of the controversial and chaotic 1981 NFL Draft involving the New York Giants and Lawrence Taylor
NOTE: As was pointed out to me, I completely forgot that Alan Page won AP MVP in 1971, meaning that Taylor was the second defensive player to ever win this award
