You got the timeline a bit wrong - the first trade of the teardown was Brent Burns to Carolina in July 2022, shortly after Mike Grier took over. Meier was traded in February of 2023, and then Karlsson in August of 2023. Also, the Burns trade not only created cap space but helped set up the Karlsson trade by clearing the way for Karlsson to be the main star on the blue line in 2022-23. Karlsson's contract was regarded as an absolutely unmovable albatross at the time, but his 100+ point season in 2022-23, which would likely not have happened were he still sharing the right side of the blue line with Burns, changed that.

Saying the rebuild started in 19-20 is completely inaccurate. The collapse started then, but Doug Wilson was still, unsuccessfully of course, trying to cobble together a contender around the existing core. As late as 2022, this team was signing aging players to long-term NMC deals. It was not until Mike Grier was hired that the actual tear down phase of the rebuild started.

Blackwood is being underrated imo. On the better side of 30, he stood on his head some nights for an AHL roster. Now that he has a somewhat competitive defense in front of him, he could put up numbers for San Jose in the next few years. His save percentage was .899 this year if i remember correctly. Martin Jones in 2019 put up an .896 SV% on a team that went to the WCF. Goaltending is not a major issue for SJ going forward. Just wanted to put that out there.

Pretty good video overall. However, it's not the goal tending that needs the issue. If you look at Blackwood's stats on paper, they don't look outstanding. But if you break down how many shots were taken on him per game, you'd see he was clearly fighting for his life and came out extremely well in comparison. His first game with the sharks, he went 49 of 50. The goaltender's the last line. In reality, the sharks had no defense this year while having very few goals and that's where the focus needs to be.

They have a bunch of trash contracts, a bunch of babies who we don't know anything about (can they hang in the nhl, can they defend, score, skate, complete a pass?) They've yet to even play a game. Celebrini looks decent but again, zero nhl experience. I've been an advocate for the team being relocated for years because all they do is lose and fail. Nothing personal against the youngsters, i hope this bottom feeder team continues to fail. This franchise is a bad joke and people are sick of their existence.
