Hi Jan. Blair, the organist of Cruis-O-Matic here. You guys were our favorite bar band because of the chemistry you guys shared. Not a single weak link in the band. You were also great showmen. I remember Mark saying he liked us because we were crazy and made him laugh. We always enjoyed performing with y'all in some of the best clubs on the DC to New Orleans circuit. We were the comical opening act; you guys were the adult portion of the show. Great memories!

I first heard the Nighthawks at the Bayou under Key Bridge. Their presence on stage was staggering along with a sound that mimicked a heart beat full of rhythm. Up until that Night I had never experienced the Blues Live. At the heart of all good music the Blues set the foundation and the Nighthawks showed me that what I liked about R&B was the Blues. Those four Guys took the Blues from a foot hill to Mt Everest. I will always be thankful to them for setting my music soul free. Thank You Nighthawks . John Longo

Jimmy Thackery lived in the house behind me growing up. Jan lived down the street (Gelston circle)from him, I used to sit in the woods between the houses and listen to them rehearse. Learns to love the blues very young because of these guys

I heard the Nighthawks at the Bottom Line in Greenwhich Village in the early 1980s when Jimmy Thackrey was still with the band. What a group! They blew the roof off.

Thank you for posting. Suddenly I'm decades back with my friends at the Psychedelly, seeing The Nighthawks. So much has changed since then, but I have always known that The Nighthawks were one of the best blues bands in the world.

Desperado's was always jumping, like so many others here I also prefer to listen to the blues. It is so good, down to the bone good. Still the best music out there. A bunch of us always were looking where they were playing next. The Nighthawks were the hottest band in town for DC and Md. and of course VA...

I saw them in Warrenton around this time; think I was 17. Mark was the first person I'd ever seen with sleeves like that. I still have an empty pack of rolling papers signed by all four members from that night.

I was at Chuck Levin's one day in the early 80's checking out a wireless unit and the salesman blew me off for another customer who wanted some bass strings. The salesman came back all dreamy and blurted "That was Jan Zukowski!". He must have had the hots for him.

I'm a Huge Blues Fan without a Doubt. I saw Jimmy Thackery and the Nighthawks at the Chestnut Cabaret in Philly around 1983 or so. The Hype was that this guy Thackery was the Second Coming. What I'm about to say is going to Upset a Lot of People in this Thread, but he didn't Live Up to the Hype in my Mind. They were an Ok Blues Band but I Left there that Night very Disappointed. I had many other Opportunities to go back and see them again, but I Reneged. The Nighthawks were Average at Best!

Jimmy Thackery did turn out to be the second coming. You, apparently, were not paying attention.
