This might be my new favorite national park.
The North Cascades is located in the middle of northern Washington and last year got just 30,000 visitors making it one of the least visit national parks in the country. This park is onky accessible in the summer and the mountains are some of the steepest in America.
It’s only 2.5 hours from Seattle and 1.5 hours from Bellingham
There are a number of campgrounds to choose from that are found on recreation.gov and backcountry camping requires a permit!
Check out:
Colonial Creek which is right on the lakeshore
Newhalem
Goodell Creek
A Gorge Lake
Pro-tip: Colonial Creek FCFS stays over through the fall.
Must-hike trails:
• Maple Pass Loop - most popular
Rainy Lake - east for sunset!
• Thunder Knob Trail - view of Diablo Lake
Hard Hikes:
Sahale Glacier
Sourdough Mountain
Thornton Lake to Trappers Peak.
There are so many trails to get off the beaten path but many require high clearance and dirt roads which will no accommodate RVS.
Don’t forget to relax and spend some time along Diablo
Lake where you can SUP or swim and the water is cold!!
Have you been to the North Cascades???
