Wear ear plugs!! When my kids were small, I would wear ear plugs at bed time/witching hour to help with the over stimulations from the noise! I could still hear them talk/cry but it just turned the intensity/volume down to a more manageable level. 😊

I’ve been considering doing this. I have anxiety that I won’t hear them though. But the noise can send me from calm to frustrated very quickly so I think the ear plugs would make me a calmer more patient parent.

I’m the Mum of 4, all adults now, the eldest with Aspergers. There’s 7 and a half years between the oldest and the youngest. When the youngest started school her teacher met separately with each parent a month after they started, just to talk about how they have settled in, progress etc. The teacher said to me, “she’s a sweet little girl, no problem at all..but she’s LOUD”.. I told the teacher “ she’s the youngest of four, she has to be, or she’d never get heard”……..4 kids all talking at you at once is a lot..I just found a quiet, still, white light in the centre of my being, so in the midst of the chaos and the noise I could be in that place of stillness within. Funnily enough I have a grandson named Cooper, and he’s a chatterbox too.

You are so loving and patient, and I know it’s hard to have constant auditory stimulation (or any sensory stimulation that is constant). My own son is hearing, but he’s also autistic and narrates every single thing he does, and can’t control his volume, even with constant reminders, and it is so, so hard sometimes, to not just run out of the house and find a quiet place to decompress (it doesn’t help that I’m also autistic, and sensory overload happens easily). I often need to remind myself as well that we thought he’d be nonverbal, and that hearing him describe everything he’s doing in Minecraft, and saying “I love you,” is a gift. But on a lot of days, it’s hard. It probably doesn’t help much, but when you post these shorts, you’re bringing awareness to something that not everyone understands, and I’m really grateful for that. Thank you for showing the hard times too, because it makes those of us who are going through something similar, realize that we aren’t alone. Similarly, know that you’re not alone in this either. If you ever, ever need someone outside of your immediate circle to vent to, or cry, or whatever, let me know. You’re an amazing mum, Beth, and it’s okay to be overwhelmed. We know you love Coop, even on the impossible days. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Sasha P.S. Aaaand my son is currently sobbing, so I should go. 🤟

I'm floored by your patience and honestly respect you from the bottom of my heart. I'll be very honest and blunt, and say that just imagining have to live with someone who constantly overstimulates me auditorily would send me deep into the depths of my already ensnaring depression, and I don't ever want to deal with that. I don't want to resent or be irritated by my own child when they can't help it or don't understand what their behaviour is doing to me. So I'm still on the fence about having my own kids. I'm also a child who was given up by my birth parents because of circumstances. But post-adoption, my life hadn't been any easier. I was physically and mentally abused by my peers and teachers, even inappropriately and definitely illegally. When I was given the opportunity to reunite with my birth mother, I leapt at the chance. But I was distraught to know, straight from her own mouth, that she didn't want a child who was on the spectrum, who was a SA victim, who was such a social outcast that she was bullied into skipping her own graduation party, and definitely no-no to a child who's suffering from severe depression. She wanted a perfect child. With good academics and looks and a bright prospect of marrying rich. Flat out said to me, "You're just too weird for me and your sister is ten times better than you." It showed me that not every mom can unconditionally love their child. But you have. So it makes me believe in mother's love again watching your videos. They're real, and I sympathise with that one clip where you tried your best to stay calm despite Cooper's temper in the car and then when he's not wearing his implant, you turned to the front and sobbed. It was heartbreaking but I respect you all the more. I wish you and your family safety and health, and lots of joy for 2023.

@VibewithacapitalV
Жыл бұрын
TLDR: It’s great that she is so honest about her struggles like this, because it shows a healthy and realistic image of motherhood. It shows other mothers(or mother figures) that even seemingly perfect moms like her have those same feelings and struggles. It’s just not healthy to force anyone to be, or pretend to be, happy all the time. Full version: She’s also allowed to be stressed and overstimulated. She has more love for Cooper than most people can even fathom. Also, you can see from the videos, the way they love each other, how much fun they have together, how healthy their relationship is, and a million other examples that she knows she is blessed to have him, is mesmerized by him, has so much fun with him, and would do literally anything to keep that adorable little boy happy, healthy, and safe. She is just being honest, real, and open by sharing some content of the moments where she was feeling stressed, exhausted, overstimulated, frustrated, and/or scared. Even in those moments though you can tell she’s still so proud to be his mom, happy to be around him, and loves him more than anything. I know it sounds nice in theory to tell people to just be happy all the time like that, but it’s actually not mentally healthy to try to force yourself or someone else to try to be happy all the time or pretend they are happy all the time. You should look up the term “toxic positivity” if you aren’t already familiar with it. It’s really good information to have if you are interested in knowing more and getting a better explanation than I can provide here. Essentially though toxic positivity is the ineffective generalization that people should be in a happy and optimistic state across all situations. The process of toxic positivity results in the denial, minimization, and invalidation of the authentic human emotional experience. All those other emotions don’t feel as good, but it’s still important to feel those feelings and work through them in a healthy and productive way in order to grow, learn, and mature whenever we possibly can throughout our lives. Sometimes you’ll fail and not truly address the issue or not handle it in a healthy or productive way, and that’s okay too. Everyone makes mistakes, and you just have to try and learn from it and do better next time. So, it’s good that she shows all the ups and downs, and honestly depicts that even incredible mothers like her that seem perfect have their moments too, and that it’s completely normal.

but this isn't funny to her, this is stressful. Beth clearly loves coop so much but overstimulation is real and she is feeling it. When I’m in a state of auditory overstimulation (like if my nephew is crying to loudly for me to address his needs in a calm way) I put in noise blocking headphones while I care for the issue, making sure I pay very close attention to him so I don’t miss anything, and this really helps! Your family is amazing. I often would tell myself the same things. He is so fun to watch. You are doing great and wonderful things with him you will not regret it later on. I know you have hard days. Maybe harder than most parents ,but be encouraged and find loved ones to help give you some rest. Love your videos.

i love that he noticed how you were frustrated in the moment and settles his body movements to a much more relaxed state. then, when he hugged you from behind, i lost it. he still wants to play and mean well by taking care of his family. such a beautiful bond

Cooper makes my heart smile so big! Trust me you will miss this stage…. Later of course right now it’s just exhausting. His smile and laughter and constant level of energy is just contagious.
