A wonderful arrangement by Taneyev of this incredible music. And a phenomenal effort on your part, with some lovely notes too. Thank you.

This might be what it would have sounded like if you went into Tchaikovsky's room one day and asked him to show you the new ballet he's been working on

@@puttster7939 He actually wasn't, and complained that Taneyev's arrangement was too hard to play. However ole Pete could really build up an excellent orchestral score on paper. He would have adored having MIDI. I don't think he was a technological Luddite, not at all. Not with a Christmas tree that lights up all at once, or a fancy German clock. He sure wasn't shy of making the orchestra do fancy things.

The speed of the octaves in the first act are impossible at the given tempo! I don’t even think Liszt could’ve even played it!

What software for the midi did you use? It sounds nicer than the usual midis.

yeah this part is usually read differently, apparently a harpist recommended that to tchaikovsky and he approved it and so it is common performance practice to arpeggiate that part differently, though no one seems to have bothered to change up the score xd

Man it’s amazing how the nutcracker suite sounds equally beautiful in both its original orchestral state and on the piano. I don’t feel like this is always the case with orchestral works being condensed to piano.

Never realized this before, the Allegro at 10:33 is the French song "Bon voyage, Monsieur Dumollet" composed by Désaugiers (1809) !

Is there any chance to see and hear swan lake like this arrangment in the future?
@tomekkobialka
9 ай бұрын
Very unlikely. This project took an insanely long time to finish. And Swan Lake is twice as long as The Nutcracker! If I do ever do something similar, it would likely just be of a much smaller section, and I would be inclined to learn/perform it myself rather than write it all up in the computer.

I thought the written version was a bit underwhelming, what with the single voice playing the melody. So I made it more climactic by having the RH play chords instead.

Tchaikovsky was not happy with this arrangement since it was too hard to play, especially for its original purpose, i.e. at rehearsals. He did one himself which is much easier to play. It's not a good concert transcription either since it just tries to stuff as many notes in as can be played by 10 fingers. Good transcriptions manage to translate the music into a more pianistic idiom. But it is an interesting experience to listen to it this way. Thank you for the efforts.
