More of Alex singing! 🙃 As pro-EV as I am, and simultaneously I understand the place for an expeditionary vehicle, the Hummers are a dumb attempt at mixing the two. EVs are for relatively civilized parts of the planet - where electricity is readily available, and where roads are pretty good - no need for heroic off road capability. Expeditions are made to places with bad roads, and where power may be hard to come by.

@notahandle965

The vast majority of off road vehicles have abysmal off road capability and are moreso just an advertising thing, making the customer feel as though their vehicle is prepared for anything. Thus the Hummer, notorious for never being taken off road, is actually a great candidate for an EV. It blends excess, giant vehicle size, off road capability that will never be used, and the plush of the EV version contrasted with the rough interior of the military Hummer.

@@notahandle965 it's funny... Some folks say they can take their Honda Civics on all of the trails in Moab... Others say you need a tricked out Landcruiser just to leave the pavement... I guess it's a matter of perspective... Hummers can definitely go off road... Maybe they're not rock buggies or mud boggers, but they can venture out of the mall parking lot... That said, hauling around a 200kWh battery pack is a big penalty when trying to get over rough terrain.

This is definitely the version I'd get. I love the 800v architecture, and I feel it's more practical than the truck (if practical could be used to describe a Hummer in the 1st place). I also like the improved breakover and departure angles, and the use case for crab mode makes a lot more sense now that the chief engineer explained how he has used it. The self cleaning cameras and digital rearview mirror help with the blind spots. Super Cruise is right up there with Tesla IMO. There are a few things I don't like though. 1. My biggest dislike is the rear door. It's massive and opens toward the curb in countries where driving on the right side of the road is the norm. Navigating around it at the airport would drive me nuts. I'd prefer if it swung up, but with the heavy spare, that would be a challenge to do. Hatches that swing up are not only completely out of the way, but they provide some shelter from the rain too. 2. I agree with Alex. It needs a 3rd row. 3. Lift over height is a challenge, even with the vehicle in the lowest suspension mode. I'd probably keep a step stool handy or rig up a truck bed crane to the hitch for those times I knew I needed to lift super heavy items. 4. I'd like a little more power from the inverter to power more A/C appliances. The F150 Lightning has excelled here. 5. It doesn't have the ability to do bi-directional charging like the Lightning can. All that energy in a massive battery, and it can't be tapped into if the power goes out at home. 6. It only comes with 800hp instead of the 1000 the truck has. Some of that is probably due to packaging, but it's still a bummer. 7. I wish automakers would standardize having the charging port in the middle of the grill so it can be accessed from both sides w/o having to back into a spot. Having it on the rear 1/4 doesn't make much sense to me. 8. I wish it came with an integrated 12000lb winch option. At 9500lbs, who's going to be able to pull you out if you get it stuck. 9. Integrated upfitter switches would be nice too.

Alex being an average size young woman a little more on the petite side of height, really gives a perspective on the overall massive size of the thing. The huge bezels on those screens look incredibly old-fashioned. Spare tire on the outside is also 100 years old. Minus 10 points on that GM. Also could move the shifter to the steering column and open up the center tunnel to more usable storage. @22:06 Under 300 mi. is definitely not enough for cross-country. The minimum should be be a true 300 miles. However, 380-400 would be the ideal range. At that distance, range anxiety would no longer be an issue. The car must be capable of going longer than the average driver. But just so we're clear, its an SUV. It definitely needs to be able to go cross-country, and 280 mi is just no enough. That's kind of the point. Anyway, the truck is definitely macho. The only thing that takes away from that, is the white color. Speaking of which, definitely needs more colors. A whole lot more. So the limit is 30+ of totally sealed hopefully when water splashes past 36 inches it won’t shut down or start having malfunctions. I would assume anything above is splash proof for safety. If I owned it I would probably stick under 30 inches because of oversplash above the 30+ inches.

Also to, Tommy, you mentioned, most people who buy this would have more than one vehicle. So tell me why you would spend 100k, for a secondary vehicle. I travel 200 miles up north in Michigan to my cabin, there is ONLY one charging station half way up, ok, so I stop and top off. More than likely I'm towing a 2axle trailer with 2 4x4 utility atv's on board. About 3500 lbs. But the vehicle has no problem towing this, but, it cuts down on the range. Now I get up north, and travel around to different trail systems, to go ride. But guess what, there are no charging stations in the area. The infrastructure isn't there yet. Now I'm most likely screwd.! But, yeah, let's all convert over to EV. It's no wonder that the big 3 still make off road trucks with gas engines. Here's another thing, once we DO get the infrastructure for EV charging stations, the price isn't going to be as cheap as it is now. There is a tax on gas and diesel that goes towards the repairs on roads, nobody's thinking about this for electricity. And where does 95% of electricity come from. Fossil fueled plants.! So, good luck EV.!

So, that being said, you think EV vehicles are not supposed to be daily driven. And even the price, isn't that much higher than a loaded full size pickup today. Average price for a middle optioned truck, $67,000 gas engine, and a diesel, over $90,000. At least with these I don't have to search for a station to fill up.

This is a GREAT EV SUV -- I think this is definitely better than the Hummer truck version due to its shorter wheel base which means off-road it should waaaaaaay outperform the truck version in MOAB and Rubicon trail-like conditions! I liked the review BUT NOW it needs a DIRECT comparison to the Ford Bronco Raptor to see which one is the true off-road king. The new $111,000 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Ultimate Recon SHOULD NOT be included in that type of comparison due to it being targeted towards a different price bracket. That Jeep is BETTER COMPARED to the Mercedes/AMG G-63 G-Wagon series! This Hummer EV looks and performs quite similar to the old Toyota FJ-Cruiser series (i.e. darn good off-road!) so it would be an interesting test to do a direct comparison against that older SUV vehicle but changed over to the SAME 35 inch or 37 inch M/T TIRES for both vehicles where I would use Goodyear Duratracs for the test! Moneywise, I would probably still buy Tommy's Jeep Willy for $35,000 USD and mod it with a 4 or 6 inch lift and big 35 or 37" Goodyear Duratracs, extra winches front and back and extra in-back fuel tank plus spend money on a roof-tent system and rear swing-out carrying cage for the 40 lbs propane and water tanks for my camping setup. All that extra stuff can be bought online for around $10,000. I'll save the money and install it myself and for $45,000 USD I get a true boondocker/overlander vehicle for less than HALF the price of the Hummer SUV! V

I’m not a big fan of electric trucks/SUV’s, but this one really caught my attention. It looks good and the features it has are amazing. Ofcourse the price is a disappointment, but a price tag for this vehicle is realistic ofcourse.
