Steve is such a great actor, he's hilariousl. A couple of years ago I had my girlfriend watch Extras for the first time and she thought Steve's Darren Lamb character was so hysterical that, when I played her a KZitem compilation video called "The Best Of Darren Lamb," she laughed so hard that I was actually a little freaked out. You know when you know someone for years but you've never really seen them crack up to that extent. I almost called an ambulance.

that is probably because Ricky Gervais is similar to David Brent ... tries too hard often, exaggerates, etc. You can see it in all the outtakes, and also in his need to bully of other people all the time. He's so good at playing David Brent because he is David Brent, somewhere. Only, David Brent has this innocence which makes him more likable.
