The Commercial Hotel when I lived in Newquay 1963 - 1978 was called the Central Hotel, probably still is.

Mate, I dont wish to pick fault, but how fast do you think a horse and carriage can travel for any amount of time? Surely no where near fast enough for a day trip to St.Ives ??

Hate to hear someone that knows little about where they have settled. The Headland, Atlantic and Victoria were built in the late 1890's. No mention of Trefry or the fact that it's nomenclature was Towan Blystra in the 17/1800's. So sad that only a small percentage of people that I grew up with remain in what in the 1950's was a lovely town now spoilt beyond repair. Bank Street should never have been closed to traffic!

Nice photos most of the early ones from the collection of Newquay Old Cornwall Society at Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum. Sadly Robert Duckworth knows nothing about Newquay's history in depth and most of the commentary is just speculation and guesswork about many of the pictures misnaming buildings and places and people. I think that the local museum should redo this with well researched stories about Newquay and its history

Robert, why didn't you do this in a Cornish accent. Norther counties are lovely but your not convincing us
