This was an amazing line up of western stars. By Dec 42, we were in the thick of it. not really making much headway yet. Kids needed these morale boosters to help forget (for awhile anyway) the dads, brothers, uncles or neighbors who were off to war.. Everybody you knew had someone in uniform somewhere overseas and you always took an extra dime to buy your war bond stamp. I think of Edison Jones and Jack Dunaway. Both great guys who let us 4YOs play football with them. in 1939. (They lied about their ages in 43 to join up). Jack made it thru WWII but didnt come back from Korea. Edison died of old age in 2017 (90) Forgive an old man's ram, bling on.

Did you ever wonder how, with all that lead filling the air, nobody ever hit even one of the horses?

Always think of the horses. All blanks used on sets but pretty realistic for a 1945 flick

The Tex Ritter version of this song is the definitive one, but this one is very good. There are about two dozen stanzas to the song that I've heard, and that means there are probably a dozen or more I haven't. May he rest in peace, my Dad and I used to sing this song on long drives. Dad knew the stanzas - I just sang the choruses.

Love that song! I was waiting for them to sing a verse I heard in another movie. In "Battleground" (1949) the country/rustic guy sings a verse, "The gal I'm a-lovin, and who's a-lovin' me, is the hog-calling champion of the state of Tennessee. . ." That's fer sure, that's fer DANG sure.

A Johnny Mack Brown vehicle for sure. Action, fights, and working for the right side of the fight. Fuzzy Knight sure plays a dumbo here but he had musical talent and a good voice.

A simple little boys' western has something important to say about the American West. That much of the West is dry and unfit for cultivation and sometimes even not very fit for settled animal husbandry. Like the roving herds of buffalo once, the passing cattle drives alone could survive the dry belts and seasons before the cattle reached the railheads for transportation to the Eastern cattle markets. Control of scarce water in such a land can mean control of all the people and animals there. This simple lesson of ecology has a vital clue to today's democracy and development of the American West by ensuring that water lies in public and not private domain and development is allowed only upto its sustainable limits or else instances of the "Dustbowl" of the 1930's would recur mass-scale uprooting of populations and animals with attendant hardships. There is a charm about this innocent western that is missing in today's movies that are either steeped in violence for violence's sake, loose morals in the name of realism or in preaching what is not practised. Innocence is indeed the price paid for development over and above permanent damage to ecology and uprooting of simple and sound traditions of simple natives and Westerners alike.

Hardly. Hollywood Westerns are hardly a reliable source for knowledge. They are more for entertainment. There are quite a few good documentaries about the West and its ecology, flora, fauna and geography besides about its diverse people and their history and traditions. Besides audio-visual sources, books by scholars of the American West based on elaborate study and research are by far the most reliable source of knowledge.

Why do you have to screw up a good picture by making it small screen? My screen is small enough already without you cheating me out of what size I have. Why can't you just make it full screen?
