It's official! I am doing a series of songs relating to Jesus sacrifice for us!
This one is an old favourite of people far and wide but for many years it didn't resonate well with me. It almost sounded as though the cross itself, as a physical item, was being worshipped! It can sound like that. But what I've come to decide is to make the song about what the cross symbolises for us. The sacrifice of Jesus, the suffering of Jesus, that He was willing to do on our behalf, so that we did not have to. Death as a result of our sin will never be our punishment if we love and follow Jesus and accept His blood to cover our sins. The cross itself, as a physical item, has no power. It deserves no worship. But what it represents for us as Christians, is everything to us. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for being willing to suffer as you did for us. May we love Him forever because He first loved us!
For those of you who have been listening for a while, you might be interested to know of three interesting milestones for Songs and Everlasting Joy that occurred in the last couple of weeks. Firstly, several weeks ago, one of the subscribers alerted me to the fact that there had been 1 million views on Songs and Everlasting Joy! Praise God that sacred music has been listened to on so many occasions! Secondly, on Friday (my time), we reached 5,000 subscribers! Thank you so much to everyone who has subscribed! As you already know, this channel is not monetised and I do not receive any compensation for the music as it is a ministry, but I am still happy to see so many people enjoying the music on a daily basis. Thirdly, this hymn is number 150! Thanks to your continuing requests, there will be many many more, God willing. So thank you to those who support this channel each week whether subscribed or not. Most people who listen are not subscribers! May the music continue to be a comfort and inspiration to people all over the world. It has grown more than I could have imagined! God bless you all.
The Old Rugged Cross
Verse 1
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame,
And I love that old cross where the Dearest and Best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
Chorus
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
Verse 2
Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me,
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above,
To bear it to dark Calvary.
Verse 3
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.
