While very neat on its own, this artefact also highlights how bizarre the Mt. Ebal inscription thing is: neat rows of legible letters vs... whatever the hell those spirals of cracks were.

I thought the same thing. If the curse tablet was true, this is what the text should look like. Right to left rows of ancient Hebrew, not whatever connect the dots they arbitrarily made up.

Fascinating. Thank you for bringing this information to us. I find it remarkable that even though the compilations of the Torah steered away from any discussions about a possible afterlife, the presence of the amulets in the burial sites suggests that those concerns are part of the popular practices and beliefs. Then again, it reinforces the idea that the final compilations were done as part of the efforts to shift power dynamics.

I always felt that myself in my debates with certain bible worshipping apologists who use there existence as evidence that the bible was older. The apotropaic amulet and the person who made it inspire me to think about the role of the craftsman. Was it a slave that had no engagement with the text other than to copy it or a priest that knew what it meant? Additionally, I think about the quality of the penmanship. Is this an example of mature competence circa 600 BCE?

I think its good to know that bad handwriting is a universal human constant. JK, but it probably was quite challenging to write that on silver plated scrolls in 600 BCE.

Making the scroll itself would be the challenge. The writing would be just like working any soft metal. Set your material on a piece of wood or a similar reasonably hard but pliable surface, take your stylus and start pressing. With a thin enough material you don't even need a metal stylus. Since silver is softer than copper and since we were well into the iron age at this point, ideal styli would be readily available.

Would be interested to know more about Old Hebrew. How does that relate to Paleo-Hebrew? I was reading that the Torah was originally written in paleo-hebrew. I was wondering if that is how they write it in the Sefer Torah? Also wondering when the Jews started being extremely diligent in their creation of Torah scrolls to try to insure that there are no errors?
@weirdlanguageguy
Жыл бұрын
As I understand it, paleo-Hebrew was the writing system used by israelites prior to the babylonian exile and is nearly identical to the Phoenician script. The modern hebrew alphabet, the "square script" was originally aramaic and was adopted by the Jews in Babylon as Aramaic was the lingua franca at the time. In the present day, however, modern aramaic varieties use scripts like Syrian instead of the traditional square script.

When you study history of many other prophets before the Jesus (pbuh), then Islam makes far more sense. When Prophet Jonah was thrown into the ocean, he was supposed to be drown and dead but God saved him from near death. When Joseph was thrown into well, he was supposed to be drown in the well and dead, but God saved him from near death. Likewise Prophet Noah supposed to be drown in the flood water, but God save him from near death. Moses was chased by biggest military ever known to Moses, but God saved Moses from near death. Prophet Lot was forcefully escorted to safety and saved by angels, when wrath of God sent down upon Sodom and Gomorrah. Prophet Daniel supposed to be eaten by lions, but God saved him from near death. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) was chased by pagan-arabs but God saved him from near death. As per the Quran 4-157, Jesus was not killed nor he was crucified but it was made appeared to the enemies and God saved Jesus (pbuh) from humiliation, torture, nakedness and near death. However Christians don't like the idea saving Jesus (pbuh) from humiliation, torture, nakedness and near-death ordeal as you know not killing Jesus (pbuh) means there is no-salvation waiting for Christians i.e. theologically speaking, overall not killing Jesus means major a bad news for Christians due to it collapses of Christianity as whole and wanting kill Jesus also puts Christians on the same boat as where Jews are, i.e. Christians and Jews both desire death upon the blameless prophet of God, but both wanting the death of Jesus, with different motives. Quran is God's words and God says that Jesus(pbuh) was saved from humiliations, torture, nakedness, and near-death ordeal from enemies. Jesus(pbuh) was not killed but he was saved. A prophet was being saved from near-death ordeal by God according to Torah and OT, have been reported at least 8 times in the Torah and OT, which coincides with the Quran. As you know as per God in the Quran, Jesus was never killed, nor he was crucified but it made appear to enemies which you Christians don’t like it and Christians hated it and that is Christians' true colors which Christians cannot deny or refute. Secondly human blood ritual and manslaughter were despicable abomination in OT, it is not valid before the God, in OT God forgives abundantly those who turn to God again it coincides with Islam. Christians are on wrong side of the equation.

In Islam . Death is the separation of the soul from the body and then going to the afterlife . That is what it means to die in Islam . Jesus soul didn't go to the afterlife . So Jesus didn't die according to Islamic tradition because Jesus soul never went to the afterlife . So the Quran and the Gospels/ new testament actually agree

Quran 4 . And for their faithlessness, and their saying against Mary a monstrous slander. 157. And for their saying, “We have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of God.” In fact, they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them as if they did. Indeed, those who differ about him are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it, except the following of assumptions. Certainly, they did not kill him. 158. Rather, God raised him up to Himself. God is Mighty and Wise Notice it says The Jews did not kill Jesus bit in fact Allah raised him up ? This means Jesus technically didn't die because his soul was put back into his body . And in the new testament Jesus is physically killed . But he is not dead under Islamic understanding of death . His soul returned to his body . The Jews did not kill Jesus because his soul never went to the afterlife

They all are telling you to worship a man. Hinduism is telling humanity to worship men. Buddhism is telling humanity to worship a man. Sikhism is telling humanity to worship a book on which Sikhs gurus are living inside the holy-book GGS. Apart from these three religions there are thousand more "hism" religions on Earth that command humanity to worship a man or command humanity to worship an object created by men. Christianity fits right into this group of religions and holy-books of these religions were authored by men, so is in Christianity NT's authorship goes to men. Human's authored holy books, followers worship men or objects created by me. Every Tom, Jerry and Henry religion's holy book which was authored by men, does not contain God's first person narrative and all of them are telling the followers to worship a man or command followers to worship an object created by men, so it is in Sikhism and Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism and 4200 'hism' religions out there on Earth do the same. Q1) Have you not pondered why all of them are commanding mankind to do the same???????????? If you know the answer to the question at line q1, I know you would be a muslim already, it is a very important question to find an answer.

It's not Christianity fits right in, that's that the post-Reformation Christians created a model of religion and treated it as default and other systems of worldviews put to it and that impacts how it's viewed today by many. Hinduism/Sanatana Dharma doesn't tell anyone to worship men. There are a wide range of philosophies under the Hindu umbrella, some which are atheistic, some are agnostic or humanist, some are polytheistic, some monotheistic, some henotheistic, some pantheistic... some involve more rigid ideas around dharma - roughly duties/ethics - than others. There are so many writings and practices around it, many we don't know who wrote and many of them conflict with each other. Buddhism also doesn't tell anyone to worship anyone. There are many variants and some involve reverence, but not worship. Sikhism is significantly younger than Christianity and is culturally impacted by both Hinduism and Islam. A lot of people like the idea that religions all have the same message, but they really not true. That's a mythos created in the early modern period and stoked by Victorians who liked the idea of a pre-civilization philosophy to 'get back to' and twisted everything to fit their lens. That people keep doing to either push their own faith or paint a picture of all being the same just shows how alluring that idea is and how poor religious literacy often is.

You need to repent of your own self-pride. You do not believe that the Bible is the word of God, and this comes from your lost, prideful stance on your own ill-begotten knowledge in the world of academia. You are but a worm in the grand scheme of things, as we all are. You put more trust in your own self than you do in your creator. Instead of bringing sheep to the shepherd, you bring sheep to the slaughter. Humble yourself, seek Christ, and let go of your pride, for that is the way of Satan. Pray to God for clarity.
