My dad won the Club Autocross there in 1960...must have been a good one, as it was a great trophy. Somehow, sadly, that family heirloom trophy was lost over the years...but I adore Waterford. SUPER fun track to drive! Warning to newcomers...Waterford very often 'over-sells' the sessions, so be prepared to be stuck in traffic if you are doing an open track day there. Private track days at Waterford can be much more fun, a little more money, but a LOT more open track.

You almost got that yellow car!!! The NA Miata probably had Hoosier SM7s from a quick look. That is what we use in club racing (I used them with my Miata in ITA and Spec Miata) and there is no way anyone can keep up with street tires. If you had similar tires, you would have picked up a lot of time. Great driving man! Smooth lines.
@LapoftheWorld
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, That yellow car I believe was a Porsche 928 with some race parts on it. I didn't look too closely at the SM but figured either Hoosiers or RRs given a lack of sipes. I'd speculate as-is the NSX probably still had a couple of seconds in it had I been more committed out of 3 into 4, and out of 8. More in cooler conditions and of course with more focused tires.
@DriversTherapy
4 жыл бұрын
@@LapoftheWorld what tires were you running? The SM7s are like driving on rails. To this day I have not experienced anything like it. I went on track with some street tires and then added the SM7s after I was dead last and did not want to spend the 800 dollars. At the race with the new SM7s, I was like "WHOOOOAAHHHH!!!". It is that good.

@@DriversTherapy Basically full-tread Falken RT615K+ (215F / 255R). They were getting squidgy after a few laps because of the heat/tread squirm. I can't bring myself to buy them shaved though because of all the highway miles and all-weather driving involved with getting to/from the track.

@@LapoftheWorld that is cool! All-around use tires. Can't beat that. Have you thought about trying the RT660s. I made a video about it and I never got a chance to test them since I did not like the wheels. People do message me asking me how they feel and I have to tell them I have no idea.

@@DriversTherapy If Falken keeps the same value proposition as with the 615's I will probably give them a try once this set is spent. I do appreciate the 660s are symmetrical, so if need be you could flip them and really milk them camber wear. The 615s have overall be great and have worn evenly regardless as long as I do enough events to balance the highway wear with the outside wear from the track, lol.

R50 MINI, I presume? (as opposed to a Yamaha bike) That pace strikes me as not shabby for a non-S car. We had an R56 for a few years. @@Gu1tarZer0 'hope you got in this weekend! The '56 definitely seems to be the red-headed step-child of the MINI family. I can vouch for it as a driving experience, but the motor isn't fit for purpose. Potentially terminal timing chain issues, water pump problems and, unless you re-engineer the PCV/EGR system, expect to have to de-coke the intake valves every 30k miles. Typically 3 GoPro's: one filing forward out the windshield or from on the windshield, one facing backwards and another facing me inside the car. On of the cameras that's inside the car will have an external mic with a "dead cat" (wind screen) on it. Right now (a couple of years on) I'm running 2x GoPro 8s, and a GoPro 4, the latter gets the external mic because it still has an audio jack without needing an accessory. We're currently pretty track-poor in the Volunteer State, but that may change soon. Right now it's just Memphis International (Track feature: kzitem.info/news/bejne/y5ulsJx7jqmFhI4 ). However that one is at-risk right now of being sold. Fortunately Nashville Super Speedway has re-opened and there have been a few events using it's "roval" configuration (video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/soyhq5dnb6B_dqA ) for road-course track days. There are also two developments in the works near Knoxville and Nashville respectively, Flat Rock Motorsports Park and Tennessee Downs. At least the former owns land and is well-backed. The latter was more recently announced, but also looks like they're not far off breaking ground. So fingers crossed we'll end up with at least one if not a few in the next year or two.

Usually so, but I'm sure if you ask the track or organizing body, they'll tell you. Hard Dog (not sponsored) is a usual suspect but there may be others.

Heat-wise: earlier in the day, the fronts, as I started driving better, the rears. Saying that you will be passed by a Miata is a Metaphor for the fact that WHRRI is a technical and handling track, not a horsepower track. The staff's biggest worry and concern is safety. I've seen novices destroy their cars because they weren't paying attention at the driver's meeting, got careless or distracted. They can hurt themselves and others. And even experienced drivers can have a problem. That is why there is always an ambulance at the track.
