NOTE: If you're interested in Shammas, check out their whole collection! The Warriors LE seen in the video are great, but might be a little extreme / overkill for some. For a slightly thicker sole with a bit more structure I'd recommend checking out the Maximus as well. Link below: shammasandals.com/collections/all-products/products/warriors-maximus

My biggest gripe is the price for how little material there is. I feel they they should be 1/4 of the price of common footwear
@ac30428

I agree! But I justify it by telling myself that they have to make something as durable as a normal shoe but with less material so it’s more specialized materials (the Vibram rubber for example).

the problem is that with plastic or synthetic footbeds, they are certainly not medical grade plastics and get absorbed readily into the sole of the foot, especially when hot and moist.

Hey Lucas, thanks for the great video. We are pretty new to the barefoot life but jumping in with both feet! We were looking at getting matching pairs of Earthrunner Circadians but then saw your video. The Circadians seem similar to your recommended pick. Do you have any experience/thoughts about Earthrunners?

I too have the Shamma Warriors LE but with additional Achilles Pad and Power Straps. It is necessary to have the power straps if you are going to run fast. As far as getting them wet, you will end up slipping in them too much. I was caught 2 miles out in the pouring rain in Houston and had to take them off to finish the run back home. Sweat from feet or the occasional puddle is fine to create some adhesion but not constantly wet. Also, how are you able to walk in a heel striking gait?! Hurts too much. Also, also, my feet were orange for the first 3 weeks. To date, 300 miles in running in them as well.

I don't like the strap in my toes, I have the xero z-trek I use them for everyday stuff as well as running when it's wet out, I wear Prios the rest of my runs.

I ordered Xero Z-Trek because I don’t like the flip flop style. I like the strappy style, just looks more of an everyday type of wear. I’m transitioning from wearing Birkenstocks, I might even do the diy Birkenstocks barefoot sandal in the future. But I feel like the sole wouldn’t be as thin or flexible.

Why not flip flops? If they fit properly my toes don't have to work to keep them on. I'm about to buy my first pair of barefoot shoes, after wearing nothing but flip flops or being totally barefoot for 3 years.

Nice! I think the heel strap is really important when it comes to securing the sandals to your foot and allowing natural foot movement. I actually have another video going a little more in-depth into the flip-flop type sandals here if you're interested: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1KuFs2x_sZx2amk

A buck ten for sandals? No thanks! Much more cost effective to find a cheap pair of Birkenstocks at a thrift store and remove the cork from them.
@AntiAnathema
Жыл бұрын
the cork makes it expensive. Most decent Birkenstocks are not really cheap(140 or so). at that point if you're going to keep cheap rubber foam with minimal cork you may as well buy cheap 5-15 dollar walmart sandals and slap cork insoles onto it or get fancier construction with cork grains in a resin paste.

I can probably make this. I sew (so can sew Velcro on the straps) and have basic leatherworking skills. I can probably buy a rubber outsole to glue on (or even just harvest the rubber outsole from an old pair of shoes)…. On the other hand, I’m not much of a thong sandals girl 😅. I hate the feel of something between my toes.
@Jota-rc8yq
Жыл бұрын
@@amyx231 You could totally make a pair for half the cost by using inferior materials otherwise you won’t save much over the cost of the shammas. The price of the vibram outsole rubber alone runs anywhere between $40-$50 for a single sheet, throw in another $20 for the leather and you’re looking at $60 on the low end not counting the cost of the webbing, buckles, velcro and raw materials like the cement, leather sealer, thread and tools required to finish the job.
