I'll admit, I was ready to drop a ripping comment after your intro but I'm really glad I continued listening. Very clear, concise, and informative. On the 0 DTE credit spread trades I have tended to watch the market for the first hour, wait for some consolidation, and then sell a far OTM spread in the direction the market had been trending to try and maximize premium before too much pullback. This seems to be counter to your strategy to sell the spread against the market move. My worry in doing that is there will be reversion at some point which will challenge the short leg.

What exactly do you mean by "scaling out"? If I understand correctly, the closer one gets to the end of the day, the less liquidity there is on options with strikes that are further away from the current price (even on the SPX). If the day goes alright, do you just let the options expire, or do you sell some components of the overall strategy (like an iron butterfly) earlier in the day, when there is still enough liquidity?
@TradeWithScott
2 жыл бұрын
Liquidity is not really an issue at any point with SPX, regardless of the time of day. Scaling in an out is simply a confirmation and acknowledgement that we will rarely get in or out at the perfect price. Scaling is a good was to DCA in and systematically pull profits off. Nothing is worse than binary trading. We trade dynamically.

I just average the highest volume on the open interest, options chain volume and filtered options time and sales volume, watch where gamma and Vega hold within that average to find a pin on SPX. I place the balanced butterfly trade between 1 to 3 pm EST. and close when my middle strikes are reached 20 to 60 minutes before market close.

Terrific video, Scott, but your butterfly example demonstrates that the butterfly is a losing strategy as well. Consider the example, $30 per trade, $470 max win. You get that max win only if the market doesn't move at all, which is never. More likely, on a winning day, you will make anywhere between $1 and $470. So let's average your winning day take at $235. (Over a theoretical 100 days trading) ($235×7) - (93×$30) = -$1154. Following this butterfly strategy with no loss mitigation, you *lose* $1154 every hundred days (on average), and that's not considering the extra debits of commissions and fees. Am I missing something? Again, excellent video, and I hope I don't sound overly critical, but what I'm left with is that *no* strategy works for 0dte.
@TradeWithScott

Two things to remember on our approach to butterflys. #1. We actually want the market to move. To get the most leverage out of a fly you place it in the path of movement. NOT at a neutral point. You want the price action to be moving, so you are correct, the market will move. We want that. #2. We only do butterflys with our profits. We never risk our own principal. If they work thats just gravy. If they don't, it only results in a reduction of overall profit. Not a loss. That's the best way to trade a strategy that works statistically 15% of the time.

scalping futures means you are paying out a ton of commissions?
@TradeWithScott
Жыл бұрын
I'm never sure what the exact measurement of "a ton" is but, we do look at #1. our results net of fees and commissions. If we are netting $500-$1000 a day who really cares what the fees are? Net is net. #2. Commissions are a part of all our trades. Every business has overhead and ours are commissions.

It's always fun when a close-minded individual who is too lazy to educate themselves on what we actually do makes a statement like that and just makes themselves look foolish. Firstly, we have one of the best track records online for 0DTE results so I think our results speak for themselves. Second, our whole "secret sauce" for our success and profits is that we trade dynamically rather than statically, meaning we roll all the time. You, of course, are referring to a 0DTE. Let me help you figure out what you don't know....Its physically impossible to roll a 0DTE. A 0DTE is a day trade. If you are rolling 0DTES they are no longer day trades. Thats fine, you just can't call them 0DTE's. Maybe next time, take the time to actually investigate what we do and why we have the amazing results we have before talking about who needs a clue.
