@TheOpalMills Phil is definitely the most down to esrth, well rounded with a little bit of needed crazy gentleman on youtube and in the opal world. The kind of guy you'd propably just chat with at the pub and not notice the time going by.

G’day mate, the first matrix is an opalised palm fossil specimen, it can be cut and treated though, and the “green confetti” stone is a vertical from Lambina, that’s why the bars are stacked across the stone. You did well with the matrix, can’t wait to see them treated. Cheers. 🤪👍

Those deep greens and blues are so cool. They look like lightning through the stone.

That one piece of opal is gorgeous. With that much material to work with from the same stone I think it would be awesome to make a complete set. An oval women’s ring with small matching oval or circular earrings.

My thoughts are to make an oval. Large stones are harder to come by, at least for me they are. I had a similar accident with the thumb on my right hand. Separated it from my hand, everything but the skin. It would flop from my palm to the back of my hand when I rotated it. Even took a piece of bone off the side when the ligament attaches. A little surgery and 2 months in a cast followed by a year of manually flexing it so it wouldn't get stiff and I have a working thumb again. This is long winded but in my defense I warned you I'm not much on making comments!

Opal Odyssey great stones make great finished products. I like free form but perfect stones are what the general demand seems to call for. My vote then is make the best stones and forgo free form. Good luck on your choice since you seem to have a eye for getting it done right.👍

With boulder opals I’ve found the yellow ironstone spots are soft like mud. It breaks up when cutting and doesn’t take a polish. I learned the hard way too… next time I buy some more to play with I’ll choose only pieces with mostly dark ironstone.
