Artist and model Victor Ross wears the Open Road Royal Deluxe in Caribou, and his own personal Open Road 6X in Silverbelly.
Though he’s spent a good portion of his career in front of the camera, Victor Ross has always been more interested in observing than being observed. “I've always had a camera with me and a pen and paper,” he says “just detailing things I see.”
Threads of nostalgia and memory run through his photos, paintings and poems which he creates with own kind of reckless abandon, chasing his muse wherever it leads him. “The most rewarding part of forging my own path,” he says, “I don't have to follow any rules. You know, I feel like I kind of just go off of feeling and what I feel like I want to express.”
For Ross, that’s often reflections on nature or his childhood in rural Missouri. “I grew up around a bunch of farmers. So you went outside, you wore a hat because the sun's blaring on you.” Though his grandfather had Stetsons, Ross first fell in love with the Open Road via a different source. “I was watching ‘Smokey and the Bandit’, and Jackie Gleason's character’s hat was just gorgeous-just tilted on his head the whole time. It was a Stetson Open Road, and I'm like, I gotta have that hat.”
